Nancy K. Daugherty
Catherine Winters Allen
I am a descendent of Catherine Winters Allen. I have done extensive research on the Winters family in Monroe County, Ohio; Wayne County, Illinois; and Hays, Kansas. I have not found her maiden name nor the name of her first husband named Winters. Do you have any reference with the maiden name? Do you know if the Public Library has an Allen family file ? Her son Henry Winters was a stone mason and worked with his stepbrother, Martin Allen. I have assumed that Henry was quieter and did not earn the fame that his brother did.

RE: Photos of Tompkins Tombstones
Hi Tyler-

Found info at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/il/bureau/cemeteries/lostgrov.txt

Apparently the data was collected in the fall of 1991. The stone I am interested in was listed as being in row 7 (south to north) #13. There is no name listed but there was a date: d Aug 14, 1871 91y. The transcription noted: "impossible to read name, marker between Hensel and O'Dell plots." The stone listed before it is William Hensell and the next listing is Frances E O'Dell.

Thanks!

Deb

Photos of Tompkins Tombstones
Hi -

Thanks so much for the photos of Samuel and Mary Tompkins' tombstones! I just discovered their daughter Frances E Tompkins O'Dell's tombstone was imaged too.Their granddaughter M Eva Keel also is in the cemetery - new discoveries for me.

I think Mary's mother - Nancy Palmer - is in the cemetery. An online listing of Lost Grove Cemetery by Terri Goembel noted a stone near the O'Dell plot with the Following info: d Aug 14, 1871 91 yrs. Have you seen it? Would it be possible to get an image?

Appreciate your help and thanks again,

Deb

I'm glad you and James are in contact. He's newly retired and eager to delve in to it all. I'm not really a crazy person, just love the name and tried to get my daughter to name my 4'th grandson that. Maybe I watched the Rifleman too much growing up, but he was my hero. Happy Wandering and Wondering, Loretta

RE: Nancy Brown Bowles
Happy to Help. I notice that James Hart now has management of her memorial, and I believe he is related to the Bowles family. Maybe you're cousins. You know that's how things get started, not only to memorialize those who have gone before us, but to bring together their descendants as well. By the way, I just love the name McCane. It's a good strong name...just sayin. Loretta

Bowles in Oak Hill
Hi Tyler, just wanted to let you know that I'm going to fill your photo request for Nancy Brown Bowles here just pretty shortly. I found other Bowles near her. Her husband Wesley Holman already has a memorial, I added photos. Their son Thomas Tate Bowles, already has a memorial, I added photos. Then I found Edward and Johnie, both didn't have memorials, I made them one, complete with photos. The stones of Edward and Johnie both say they are the sons of J.C. & L. Bowles. ?? Just thought I'd let you know, since you asked for others, if found, around Nancy. "Each Day Counts", Loretta

Hello Tyler,

I screwed up the input on Martha's spouse. It should be Oscar (109664781).

Thanks in advance for making the correction.

Dorothy Hon-Bradberry
James H McCane (Jim McCane)
Hi Tyler: My name is Dorothy Bradberry. Jim McCane is my g-grandfather on my father's side (Ralph Hon, son of Royal Hon, spouse of Myrtle McCane-daughter of Jim McCane). I am wondering who is in the pic next to your BIO. It's a beautiful picture and I'm wondering if any relation to me. What is your ancestry to Jim? I have been researching for about 4 years and happened upon your findagrave message board. Thank you for your research. I'm sure we are related. Nice to meet you. dorothybr@gmail.com

4th Cousins
Hello Tyler,
Johann Nicholas Pohl who married Anna Margaretha Renner. They had a son Gabriel Johann Pohl, who married my 2nd Great Grand Aunt, Elizabeth Erbes Pohl. They had 13 children, so I guessing there are a few cousins out there.
I live in California, I have visited Mendota a couple of times and enjoyed my visits. There is an Erbes Cemetery in Bureau County, which was the original family farm of the Henry and Charlotte Erbes. Which would be our common ancestor.
I have been attempting to link all the family members together on Find a grave. I appreciate the work you have done in recording the graves at Restland.
