Do you have a memorial number? Or give a little more info so I might look up your request on the spelling of her first name? But you probably know that many names are found with various spellings in different records. Even with the individual's own records.

RE: ASBURY WHITFIELD
Thanks for the compliment as I have worked very hard on it, but I did inherit many Whitfield memorials from a cousin who passed away, and I need to do research on them that she didn't do. I've begun.

You sound like me. If you come from old families in the South which were made up of anywhere from 10 to 16 or more children, you find yourself tied to so many families you would need a whole staff of people to help you keep up! So, yes, I just call them cousins too. I gave up on the once or twice removed, etc. foolishness. Great for the people who can be that exact . . . But I'd never get anything done!

I do descend directly from the original William Whitfield who immigrated from England but since every family since, down to my Great Grandfather C. William Whitfield chose to UTILIZE the name William, often for more than one son in the family (for a middle name), it is absolutely mind boggling. I may one day pay a professional to do the job on a couple of mine.

I suppose you know the Whitfields are huge in many ways, and my Grandmother was indeed proud to be one, AND of the fact that her Grandfather Samuel Franklin descended from the family of Benjamin Franklin, his uncle I believe --another search probably requiring a professional. Best Regards, Cuz. N

Correction
Note: Cecil's birth year is incorrect; it should be 1892, not 1890. Cecil's sister Annie Lee (Raines) Boone was born Jun. 1, 1890. Look at memorial 38088477 photo. Census records and family information back my claim. I have a note on the memorial on this.

John Carter
Your Message:
I found Rhoda Carter in the 1880 Census, District 53, Appling County, GA with J.J. Carter her age was 24 with J.J. age 38 daughter Mary S. age 7. Could Rhoda's husband be the John J. in Ten Mile Cemetery - John J. Memorial #75488789? Thanks for checking and I certainly do appreciate all your efforts. I also have Irisheyes - green, Pamela

Not being related, I'm not familiar with the CARTER family very well, so, I transferred to you. :) Thank you for your interest. And I have green eyes too.
God bless. ~:)

RE: Acy Harper
I have not been able to find a marriage record for Acy Harper - the 1940 census shows him with a wife named Lucy b.1904 but I have not determined her maiden name -since Acy died in the mid 50's, it is quite possible she remarried but I have not proven that either - Harper is such a common name in SE Georgia, it can be difficult to work with

RE: Lula S. Carter
You're welcome, Mars Hill is a beautiful little cemetery and graves are well-marked, so I wondered if Lula and Leila are the same person, but wasn't sure. I really appreciate your offer of research information too. My relatives in South GA are Perry's from Sumter and Terrell counties, McWilliams from Tattnall, and Starlings and Hodges from near Lowndes. If you have information on any of them, I'd definitely be interested.

Thanks,

Debbie

Lula Carter_Mars Hill Request

We couldn't find Lula Carter with a birthdate of 1899, but there is a Leila Carter, wife of Everette, who was born in 1899 and passed away in 1976. They are buried on the row behind Eliga and Arabelle Carter. There is already a memorial with a photo posted of Leila & Everette Carter's tombstone, so I didn't know if this may be Lula misspelled. Let us know if you'd like the Leila Carter photo submitted on Lula's site and we'll be glad to post it.

Thanks,

Debbie
