the Donaldson edits
thanks for the info you sent me, I am putting the edits through tonight, curious if you have any connection to the Donaldsons

my rationale
Hi Phil,

I have declined your edit requests for the Kittleson's and you have now asked for "my rationale" in doing so.

I did post my rationale in the decline "reason," so it should be in the email you received. However, I will explain it here, since you asked.

Currently, for Helen, I have the inscription from her family in the marker transcription slot. It is words of endearment and in my opinion, nothing else should be put in that section.

You are asking me to add "her full name" IN CAPITAL LETTERS, the birth and death dates on the tombstone, AND rewrite the loving inscription in CAPITAL LETTERS.

The name and dates are redundant. My photographs are nice and clear, so there is no reason to spell it out in that category.

The "name" is in the "name" section and is searchable by name. There is no reason to duplicate that.

The "dates" are in the official "date" section. Again, no reason to duplicate that.

And there is absolutely no reason to CAPITALIZE the entire thing, inscription included. It's not very pretty, and even if you don't agree with me, I am the manager of the memorial and that is my preference.

Same reasoning goes for Lyle, despite him not having an inscription of endearment. It is superfluous.

I hope this answers your question.

Saw your message to LKChap about faithful rendering of transcriptions. I have the full, faithful 1947 renderings of all the stones in Blandford Cemetery and a few hundred will get processed by Find A Grave Edit this week for the inactive contributors. Unfortunately many transcriptions have been put in the description field, so very difficult to get them changed, at least all the wordings are there. If you find errors as inscriptions appear, feel free to send edits.

Blandford Cemetery Photos
I took all my photos down. Once the memorial corrections are done I will put them up ordered so the claimant can walk it top to bottom. There are going to be some missing stones from what I saw when I was there in Sept, and I want to mark those memorials so so noone wastes their time. Thanks.

PS: this cemetery had 232 memorials back in June. Now it is about 370. So many were put in Hill Cemetery by mistake.

RE: Blandford Cemetery - Hugh Hamilton & Samuel Crooks
Source is a comprehensive transcription done in 1947. Actually Hugh Hamilton is Plot #184. I will send a new edit request as the inscription is a little off too. There was so much wrong with this cemetery that I was bound to make an error too. Thanks for the question.

RE: Lucy Davis Merchant (1764-1827) - Old Watertown Cemetery
Philip - Thank you so much for figuring out where Lucy actually is buried - and even more for the fabulous photo of her gravestone! Your friend Terry must be a professional photographer - both the photo of Lucy's grave, and the obelisk monument you mentioned are great. All the best, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Christie

Great work, Philip! I'm so excited that you found Lucy's records in Watertown. I'm updating my records accordingly. Fabulous!

Lucy Davis Merchant
Hi Phillip - Re: Your Find A Grave Memorial# 82979891, did you actually find Lucy's grave? There's no picture of the gravestone on your memorial, and I didn't find it when I looked for it in Evergreen Cemetery. Her husband Thomas Merchant is buried next to his first wife Ann, whom I believe is Lucy's sister. Some records indicate Lucy died back in CT. Would you let me know what proof you might have? Thanks! Christie

John Dimmock Find A Grave Memorial# 63322300
Hello Philip, My name is John Sloan. John G DImmock is my 6th great grandfather. I am researching the Dimick/Dimmock/Dimmick/Dymoke families as part of my family research. I was delighted to see a photo for his stone, however I was confused when the "Cemetery" listed was "Non-Cemetery Burial". If this stone is also under the same large evergreen as Annah Davis' headstone, as your caption indicates, I would assume that it is in the same physical graveyard, Falmouth Old Burying Ground, Falmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, USA. If the Annah Davis (Find A Grave Memorial# 5864040) you mention is his daughter who was married to Jabez Davis Is that assumption about Annah Davis correct? Please contact me off forum at Regards John

RE: Prefix edits
Dear Phillip ____,

What was rejected? I do have a good memory and A rather high I.Q. above 200 too. But I do not recall any rejections. Please tell me so I may recall.

Sorry in actuality it is not as you posted "Life Choice", in many ways, things, titles gained, etc..etc.. (even look at the ETC now too.

On Ancestries Find a Grave they have very Limited and as you know the Un-Changed suffix additions.
EG. You may forget the US Military did DRAFT. General is Gen. here. But no Major General, etc..
As you may well know in the US Revolution we had 1st, 2nd, 3rd Lt's. So not a choice but a required obligation.A P.E. also in the profession is gained and attained. But not shown at Find A Grave.

It was also and is when a Man married /marries a Woman she obtains his name too.
But yet Find A Grave does not have Miss nor Ms. ?

You may add me as your friend on Find A Grave now too.

RE: Blandford Cemeteires
Fixing Blandford cemeteries is a long tedious process. In order to merge: names & dates have to be exactly alike. Change Requests take 21 days for inactive contributors (there are several here). And if I make an error, another 21 days. Also have to ask Find A Grave to change the cemetery locations, and I miss some because there is no photo to validate it was taken at Blandford Cemetery.

By the time I get to Blandford (from AZ) There should be over 100 memorials transferred from Hill Cemetery to Blandford Cemetery. Once there, I will check the full list and find stones with missing photos or sitting in Hill Cemetery.

RE: Blandford Cemeteires
Unfortunately, many of the memorial & cemetery changes involve inactive or uncooperative managers. So a 21 day wait period. Find A Grave Edit does change the cemetery pretty fast once I request it. Merger does have the advantage of preserving photos & connections. I will likely have to look at every stone in Blandford Cemetery to confirm results of this project in Blandford.

Captain David Hamilton
David Hamilton is in Blandford Cemetery. It has been very slow going with Becky not answering. Sad thing is when she placed so many memorials in Hill Cemetery instead of Blandford Cemetery, those that found Blandford Cemetery correctly, duped her. I am plodding thru it very slowly. I found an on-line Flickr Photo Album of Blandford Cemetery so that I am sure of the changes I am requesting. If you have any questions/suggestions for Blandford cemeteries, drop me a line. I only have one family stone in each cemetery, but I want to fix everything. I am going there in a couple weeks from AZ. Thanks.

Blandford Duplicates
Just saw Donna's response to you concerning the burial location of Captain David Hamilton. I will get the duplicate memorial resolved. I have quite a few in process, and some take a while as some contributors have gone inactive. I will be in Blandford in about a month from AZ.

Bandford Duplicates
If you are still interested, Blandford cemeteries have many posting errors. Blandford Cemetery (the oldest) is at the bottom of the hill in center of town. Hill Cemetery is just up the Hill on NORTH STREET. To further confuse, NORTH Blandford Cemetery is on Blair Road. I am trying to unravel some of the duplicates, and have put Captain David Hamilton on my list. One contributor puts the same people in both cemeteries and refuses to answer any questions or do any edit suggestions. Take Care.
