RE: Central State Hospital Cemetary

What great news! I am so glad I was able to be of help.

If you don't mind, would you take a photo of the stone and post it on the memorial?

May God Bless you for what you are doing.

RE: Gordon grave

I am sad that you can't find out who is in charge of the records there.

I can't imagine that you would get into trouble for putting a marker there, as it sounds as if the cemetery is pretty much abandoned.

When you were there, was the grass cut and did the cemetery seemed like it is taken care of?

Do keep in touch, and if I can be of anymore help -- please let me know.

I have transfer the memorial to you.

God Bless!

What a nice remembrance it will be for you to put a monument there for him.

Let me know what Robin has to say, as I've worked personally with her..... she is wonderful lady.

She may know who you can contact there.

Good question -- although I do not have an answer.

The memorial was created from a book I purchased from the "Genealogical Society of Marion County".

It only states "Section 02" -- which I'm sure doesn't really tell us much either.

I am sorry I can not be of help and I don't know who to tell you to contact.

Maybe you could contact Robin Allison as she was doing a search there a while back. I don't know if she can help or not, but it may be worth a try.

Hi. No, I just pulled all the photos from the 1908 Standard atlas of Marshall County, Indiana, and posted them on their respective entries here. I did a couple of other atlases as well. I'm on the board of Historic Bremen, the history society of Bremen, Indiana.

Nice to meet you, too. I am coming in contact with soooooo many "distant cousins" since I started this geneaology work last year. Fun, but sometimes can be frustrating.

Thanks for letting me use your photos and for the additional information.
If I can be of any assistance in your search, please let me know.

Jesse Crutcher had another daughter, Duranda (or something like that). She married a Prindle and then married a much older man - Bennett Weathington, with whom she had a daughter, Almeda (or Almeta). Almeta married Oliver Morton Jackson and their daughter, Icle Francis Jackson, was my paternal grandmother.

Do you know anything about Duranda, or her 2 children (James and John) she had with Wm. Prindle?

I am building a tree on ancestry.com:
"Reynolds of Southern Illinois". Can I use your photos from this site to put on my tree?

You can also reach me at e-mail:

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Carol, the marker for Judith Ann Dixon in East Lawn Cemetery has now been properly installed. Would it be possible for you to rephotograph the site? Thanks, Nancy Dixon Murray

John Sellers Grave
Carol, Glad I found you on here! We connected 20 years ago as I started trying to do our family tree. I have been on ancestry about a year now and am slowly working on family tree more in depth than before. John Sellers' grave is listed on Find a Grave as Pleasant Grove @ Barnhill, IL . I feel certain it is Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Lamard Township. I have "Wayne County, IL Cemetery Inscriptions Volume III" Compiled by Doris Ellen Bland of Fairfield, IL Pub. July 1972. In this Book it does have John Sellers listed died Sept. 1864, aged 80 yrs. Member of F.W. Baptist Church.

Re: dob and dod for Jacob Yost - The year of birth and the year of death are both shown as 1834 but the tombstone shows dob as 7 Jan 1834 and dod as 7 Jan 1887.

Thanks for all of you who post to Find A Grave as it often is far more informative than anything located on Latter Day Saints!

Carol, Thank you so much for all your hard work of creating Find A Grave memorials. I have a family tree and your memorials have filled many of my blank spots. The pictures of the people and tombstones are so much appreciated by me.

James Matheny
One more possibility popped up: There is an uncle of Morris Matheny who was also named James. It was in fact the uncle in whose household Edmond Perry was raised, not the brother. I haven't traced any of the uncle's connections yet, but given the age difference, one of his daughters might have married/had an affair with a Rose and then married a Perry and died young, leaving Edmond to be raised by the grandparent, James. I will look into the marriages and family connections for that family group! Thanks for sending the DNA info!

RE: Ezra Rose
No, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Those things did happen and I expect they still do, though nowadays they just show up on Jerry Springer and slug it out. In fact, Ezra's daughter Dorothy (and this was NOT talked about in the family, I found out by accident) was sweet-talked and seduced by a local man who happened to be already married. When she found herself in trouble, my gg-grandfather came to the rescue and married her, and their first child looked nothing like the rest of the family. (Oops, I guess Ezra is my ggg-grandfather, not my gg-grandfather, I miscounted the generations)

However, I can connect the Matheny family to the Rose family for you. Don't know if it helps, as it wouldn't be the Y-chromosome DNA...
My file shows a Moses Matheny (1804- ) m. Rebecca Phillips. Their son Morris Matheny (1832-1915) m. Mary Ann Rose, and Morris and Mary Ann had at least one son George C. Matheny. Mary Ann Rose was a daughter of William Rose and Mary Martin, and was a sister of Ezra's. James Matheny was the older brother of Morris and might have adopted any children that Morris and Mary Ann were unable to provide for, among other possibilities. For example, possibilities include: Morris and James had a LOT of sisters, one of whom might have married a Rose and died young in childbirth or might have had a relationship with a Rose that resulted in a teen pregnancy. OR James Matheny might have been his wife's second husband and he adopted a child from her first marriage... Living that close in a small community means there were probably lots of intermarriages between the families. I would have to do some more research to check out those other possibilities!

RE: Ezra Rose
Hi, Carol-- yes, Ezra Rose is my gg-grandfather. I do not have a picture of Ezra or his wife Susannah Higgins Rose or of the parents of either. The only person I knew who might have had a picture of them was my great-aunt Mary. Mary and her daughter have both passed away, and I'm not sure whether any of the old pics survived or were passed down to Mary's granddaughter. I sent an email to her and am waiting to hear! I have only managed to find genealogical data on one line among the parents of Ezra and Susannah. (Not William Rose's line, unfortunately.) I will send you a direct email with that, as it is too long for a message here!
