Bill, thank you so much for providing the picture of Jim's monument. Jim and I were stationed together in the pre-Vietnam years in Taiwan, both of us serving as Morse Radio Operators. I am sorry to hear of his passing without our having the opportunity to reconnect.

RE: >>My paternal Grandmother was Belle Atchley and she married my Grandfather Charlie Strevel. Their oldest daughter Fannie married my Dad Les McGroom. Belle's Grandfather Jasper was born in Tennessee about 1825 but I cannot find him before 1840 with his marriage to Elizabeth Wells in New Hope Alabama. The Atchleys from East Tennessee seem to know nothing about him. And so the search goes on.<<
There is a person called rbhood of Yakima, Washington who lists this family on ancestry.com. He has Jasper marrying a 2nd time to one Martha Provence. Jasper's father is listed as Thomas Atchley, born 1796 in New Jersey; and mother Mary/Polly Chambers born 1796 in NC. Who was Belle's father as this person does not specifically list anyone named Belle.

I am of those Eastern TN Atchley's! However, based on the date of birth, I could give you some leads that branch off that may help. Siblings of the main 'Character being followed' and thier children, which is probaly why the East TN is lacking knowledge. I can email you if you like. Thanks again.
