Fantastic information you supplied to me today about Mr. Halley's grave stone. I will cut-and-paste this information immediately to the administrator at the cemetery office (he probably will not receive it until Monday). Perhaps we can get him to take another look for your relative. A telephone call from you to him would be a very good thing, too.
In the meantime, I photographed a Haley individual (military) at the Rohnerville Kenmar Pioneer Cemetery in Rohnerville, Humboldt County, CA (which is a tiny town on the south side of Fortuna, CA, and often referred to as a part of Fortuna). I saw the name and thought it could be possible that he might be one of your folks. I will email you a copy of the photograph so you can check it out.
Kind regards and please keep up the most excellent work you and your brother are doing in genealogy!

Glad to have posted the photos. I'll take care of the duplicate--must have been a hiccup along the way! :)

Regarding look-ups, this cemetery office takes up to two weeks (or more, in which case my claimed photograph requests expire) to respond to look-ups. They require an individual's name, relative certainty that they are interred at one of their three cemeteries, and a death date. No list can be obtained for an individual surname. But I will do my level best to get a photograph for you if they give me a location for James. Hmm....on second thought, if you called them as a relative, they might do his look-up for you as you are holding on the telephone. (707) 445.3188 (PST). It is 4:02PM here now (time is off from message times within FindAGrave). Ocean View Cemetery, Sunset Memorial Park, and Saint Bernard's Catholic Cemetery are all under the same administration at that phone number. Please let me know if you have any luck! Kind regards, BL

Dear Dwayne Hawpe: Your family research is most impressive! I have accepted your request for James's grave marker photograph and will put in a request today for Sunset Memorial Park's administration to do a look-up for him. Are there any others requests you might have in Sunset Memorial Park, Ocean View Cemetery or Saint Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Eureka, Humboldt County, CA? If so, please put in a request and myself or another volunteer will see it in the queue. Our weather has been most favorable for photographs! Kind regards, BL

Hi Dwayne, it's good to hear from you again. Too bad you didn't get me a few hours ago! I was just there today. I'll put these on my list for this week, and I'll let you know as soon as they are done.

I'm doing a story on the town of "New York" Albemarle and surrounding farms in Greenwood Alb. We trace back to James H. Bailey and Mary Hays. Mary had a sister, Harriet, who married John Crobarger. John & Harriet first lived near N.Y. on and then moved to Esmont. I think Mrs. Hawpe was a daughter of theirs. Mary & Harriet's mother was Elizabeth Wingfield who m 1st John Hays, then James Blain and lastly George Crobarger (of Hessian House, Greenville augusta). John (who m. Harriet Hays was a son of George by a first wife. John Hays father was James Hays (who m. Mary Buster) who founded the town of New York, Alb.

I finally found the funeral home website and it shows the 18th, so I guess I am back to using the 18th with a comment about the discrepancy and ref. the funeral home. Thanks, as I do want to have my pages correct as possible, since there are so many copied errors out on the net as you know. Appreciate your having the same viewpoint about FindaGrave.

Thanks for doing the photo and taking the time to let me know the date differences. I put a note in the text that shows the SS index date but I did change it to match the marker. Thanks for your wonderful work here on FindaGrave website.
