The information came from a 1970s walk through of the cemetery by the Iowa City Genealogical Society. There is a Solon History Group that has been very involved with this cemetery. If you look at photos of other stones you will see that some are posted by them. I put out a request for photo of this stone.

Thank you so much. This will help others a lot. I really appreciate your assistance and your work on Sands Cemetery was wonderful. Nice to have someone who cares for these older cemeteriesa. We finally got our maps of all the cemeteries in Lee County posted at the libraries. Paul Frence of Des Moines Co and I and another gentleman worked on getting accurate GPS readings for each cemetery in Lee County that put you right in the cemetery. I wll see if I have the file on my computer and send a copy of you. It might be a few days before I can get to this however, I am currently working on organizing a large room full of books for the fall sale. Pat M

You were just lucky I guess. We are spending the summer at our camper this year and I don't get on the computer daily as I normally do during the winter months.
About the only thing left in Vernon, Ohio is the cemetery and a few houses. Everyone and everything have left for the BIG cities.

I am sorry to say that all records for the Pine St. Cemetery have been lost to the ages. I know that there are several unknown burials in the cemetery and it is very possible that Henry is buried there. I am not connected to the Leighton Family. I live near the cemetery and wanted to post the known burials to Findagrave. Very sorry that I can't be of more help. Mark

I am looking into a Parmelia Messenger Shaw, I trying to find out is she is a child of Parmelia Gibbons and Grove Messenger. She is buried at Shawtown Cemetery in Morrow County not to far for Parmelia Gibbons Messenger Norton.... I have her date of birth as April 10th 1807 in Conn. which also fit the time line for children of Grove Messenger. Just trying to connect the dots. Maggie Kirk

I notice your notes that descendants of David & Hannah (Higley) Messenger are collecting money to restore the old markers. Can I help too? How much will this cost. Call me or e-mail me.

|Bob Trapp||De Reus family|
Thank you for the work you are doing on the Find A Grave web site. Congrats on your Mayflower line connections. White and Warren are not my lines to the Mayflower although my wife is a Warren. So you and my wife are cousins. But by way of my grandmother Mattie Mae De Reus I have over 16 ancestors I have joined the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. Her mother, Clara Mae De Reus was a Cushman. The De REUS family can be proud of their American Heritage.
Again thank you cousin for your work.

Gayle: Thought you may want to know--with the help of Findagrave contributor the lost W.D.Gibbons has been found with the correct tombstone.
The link is
Also, you have his sister, Pamela and stated there were 2 children born. Ancestry has a third child born named Larkin Green Gibbons 7 Aug 1793, which would make him a twin.

|Solon History Group||Double Memorial Pages|
Just wanted to let you know that there are double memorial pages for Katerina STOCHL as well. Yours appears to be much more detailed. I'm not sure what it takes to delete a duplicate page. Perhaps you might contact the other author to see if they can delete theirs? Otherwise, I guess no one would be bothered either way.

I wish I were related to these people, but, oh my, you have done a lovely job of this! What a kind and thoughtful person you must be.
I am descended from the Bradfords who came to Iowa at about the same time as the Leightons, which is how I stumbled on your great information.
