RE: Short: Mary Anna Loveall Short family
Hi Mary,

I just saw I had a message from you dated Nov 2, 2014. My e-mail has changed and I did not realize I had forgotten to update my profile, that is why your e-mail to me bounced back. I have not been on find a grave for a while and so I did not see your message requesting I contact you until just now.

My profile now has the correct e-mail which is I will be happy to share what information I have on Mary Ann Loveall Short.

I saw in the messages that obituaries may be provided if requested. I am Aleda Huff Creel, great grand daughter of James Absen Loveall and Lucy Shelton Loveall. I have been searching for the cause of death for years and am wondering if maybe the obits would provide that. I would very much appreciate any help. Thank you.

Hi - You are welcome!

I ran across this when doing research about the people buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in Lawrence County, Indiana. I am working on a book about all the people buried at Mount Olive.

Thanks for your correction. The duplicate memorial has been deleted. Memorials by me at Holy Family Cemetery come from church records unless they are my relatives. I am not related to the Thoman family. I appreciate your input.

Hi Mary,

You are entirely welcome, I'm always glad to help. I have transferred the Dudleys to you. There are a couple that had the maiden name of Dudley, let me know if you want them and their spouses. Take care and thank you for the kind words.

Hi Mary,

No, I am not related and will be happy to transfer. You don't need to go thru the edit link. Can you just write back and send the first and last names and the memorial numbers of the ones that you want? Thanks, have a beautiful day!

RE: Photograph permission - Zachariah Burton
Zachariah was my 1st cousin 5x removed through his mother, Susannah Stamper, my 4th great grand aunt. I would never be able to figure that out, but that's what the Ancestry software shows.

I live in Cleveland, Tennessee and have never been to Ashe County, NC. I went to Rutherford and Cleveland Counties on genealogy research. I do intend to visit there in the near future to do some research. I'm retiring soon and I look forward to that kind of travel.

My email address is I'd really like a picture of as high quality as possible. I will tell you though, my tree is online and when I put it in my tree, it will be accessible to anyone who has an account. If you'd rather not have it accessible, I have the ability to make the picture private. Just let me know.

I really like knowing some of the background on these photos. Anything you want to include with the photo I'd be glad to attach to the file.

Thanks for responding to my request so soon and it was great reading your message. I just love first-hand information like what your grandmother related.

Photograph permission
Would you mind if I use the photograph of Zachariah Burton on horseback, that you posted to his memorial, in my family tree? He is my distant cousin.

RE: Frank Newman
Hi Mary, Not sure if we have a connection or not. The William Niles that I have been looking at was mentioned in a Will by by Great Great Great Grandfather John Shay in Covington, KY. John say left him His Gold Pocket Watch that he carries with him. John also left William's Mother, Sarah J Carson a piece of property in West Covington, KY. I found that strange since he was married and had children by a different wife who fought the will giving Sarah and William anything. I was seeing if you had any connection because I thought maybe those kids knew anything. Sorry.

RE: Maysville Cemetery
My Aunt is Eleanor (Mattingly) Sturgeon. I know the Mattingly family has been in Washington for a long time. The cemetery is taking funds, new owner is Guy Barker who buried his 11 month old son in Oak Grove. They have a page on Facebook for Oak Grove Cemetery and it's pretty much filled with a lot of unhappy people and much hatred. I myself left the group due to so much negativity. Well, politics as usual even in a small town. No recourse, lots of money to pursue a lawsuit and no one willing to help as far as the town or County. Last I was told it would have to be abandoned for the Trustee's Office to take control. We've been at a dead end for 2 years.

RE: Massengill
Sarah Ann Burton is my 3rd Great Grandmother, husband is Eli Sharp. My actual SAR Lineage for now runs through the Summitt's of Daviess and Monroe Counties from North Carolina. This is my connection to Henry. I have never had the chance to visit Rocky Mount. I have read a great deal on the history. Thank you for sharing some of your family history. Buried standing up? Interesting... I'll have to check out your Burton Line within the DAR. Thank you again.

RE: Maysville Cemetery
I find the variants of Masengale very interesting over time as each child seemed to change the spelling. My Massengill Line descends from Lake City, Anderson, Tennessee and other areas of Tennessee. This includes the Sharp, Wilson, Burton and etc. Thanks for asking. "Happy New Year".

RE: Maysville Cemetery
Hi Mary - John B. Yarbrough and Parthena (Morris) Yarbrough are my 2nd Great Grandparents. Franklin Yarbrough is my Great Grand Uncle. I'm sorry to say I haven't had a chance to view your entries for Oak Grove Cemetery as that is where the majority of my relatives and ancestors are buried. You've done some wonderful work and we all appreciate your time. Oak Grove Cemetery is broke due to theft of burial funds that the prior owners, Mattingly brothers, used for personal expenses. The present owner gave the Mattingly brothers $30,000.00 to take over the cemetery not knowing the fund was empty. We've contacted City, County and State agencies and have been told to not pursue the issue as it will tarnish well respected families in Daviess County. This was due to the cemetery being sold by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows to a private interest and the members emptied the account. It's a mess.

Maysville Cemetery
Mary - My visit to my hometown of Washington, Indiana, June 1 - July 6, 2013, took me back to the Maysville Cemetery and due to a severe storm that went through the Daviess County area the caretaker had pushed a number of stones into the brush surrounding the cemetery with a bulldozer. I was horrified. Also, a groundhog/woodchuck has a burrow on the North side of the cemetery in the woods and is tearing up the cemetery with tunnels. My Yarbrough Great Grandparents are buried in the cemetery along with Great Uncles. Oak Grove Cemetery is even worse. My Lineage also descends through The Masengale Line, Edmiston and much more within Daviess County. Appreciate all you've done. Thank you. Larry Dean Sturgeon / Washington, Daviess, Indiana / Springhill. Hernando, Florida.

He was listed in the 1900 Census in Franklin, Indiana along with his brother as Boarders in the Niles household, but in 1910 Franklin, IN it says he was adopted of the head of household. He was 22 at the time..

Do you have any relation to Frank Newman? In 1911 he was listed in the Census with an Adopted Mother Elizabeth Kokenge Niles. She was married to a William Niles whom I'm trying to find more info on. Thanks
