RE: Rosina and Rosemunde
Hi Lisa,

Yes, my Great Grandmother Rosina had her legs removed at the age of 69 -- due to Diabetes. She also went blind. She was apparently a very Saintly Lady. When my Father was dating my Mother, my Mother lived in the house adjacent to the Herbert Homestead -- so she knew her Paternal Grandparents very well. In fact, Jacob Herbert (Rosina's Husband) and my Mother shared the same birthday (June 21).

My future Father got to meet Rosina circa 1945-46 -- and he was immediately taken by her personality and loveliness. He helped attend to her leg wounds and would also carry her upstairs to the only bathroom in the household -- when needed.

It makes sense that these are the two Nuns that are on the wire recording with Rosina. I did convert those recordings to cassette tape back in the early 80's. Perhaps I should now convert them to CD's for posterity.

Please continue to keep in touch. I recently found photos of Secunda (without the scratch) and Jacob Schmidt. I think I E-mailed them to you already -- but just to be sure, I'll do it again now.

Cousin Bob

RE: Rosina and Rosemunde
Hi Lisa,

Believe it or not -- I have a recording of two nuns who were related to my Great Grandmother Rosina Herbert.

My Father bought a wire recorder in 1947 and traveled to the nuns to record a loving greeting for Rosina -- who was blind and had both her legs amputated -- but she was a loving soul.

Being blind, my Father tricked her, and after she listened to the nuns loving messages, he recorded her comments about it -- then played her comments back to her. She then commented on her comments -- and again Dad recorded her comments -- then played it back again.

I think it went on three times -- and Rosina was just laughing over it all.

She died a few months before I was born in 1948.

Looking forward to a letter regarding your findings during the Ohio trip.

L,

B

Hi Lisa,

Yes, I know that.

RE: Reese
I have a great aunt (Miriam Reese Lewis) who's father was Henry Lewis born on October 13, 1862 in Trevethin Wales. I do not know if Trevethin is a county or village or what.....his siblings were Ruth, Cahterine, Margaret, Anne, Jacob, Elizabeth and Thomas. He also had two sisters who were both named Llydia and they passed away as infants.

I assume there is a Reese connection because my great aunts middle name is Reese but I have not found it yet.

Is Trevethin any where near Glamorgan Wales?

RE: Reese
My great Aunt Miriam Lewis-Roof had Reese as her middle name....so I am guessing that it's a family surname somewhere in my family tree. I thought that perhaps you knew what the connection might be. The names I am searching are Vaughan, Lewis, Mull and Collins. I only have information that goes back to the mid to late 1800's

My Vaughan / Lewis ancestors came from Carbon County, PA. I came across a few of them in the Jeanesville Cemetery....and saw the name Reese. my great aunt was named Miriam REESE Lewis and I was wondering where the name Reese came from. I wonder if we have a connection here since the Vaughan and Lewis families came to Buffalo, NY from Jeansville and Audenried PA. Can you help me in any way? Thanks, my name is Renee Vaughan-Leiser

No, I am going to get up there, but nothing planned for this summer. Those photos I uploaded came from slides my brother had (30+ years old) & the previous farm owner took him & my sister-in-law out there. Will email you & we can catch up.

You are very welcome! I was hoping it was the right photo, did you notice the year of death is 1977 on the stone. She is buried in Section 6 were there is a section of sisters buried there, this is not the section were the statue is. Carla :)
