Julia, I don't recall if I responded to your kind message - but you are welcome. Without all the "genealogy angels", it would be 10 times harder to get this stuff done, and I myself have benefited from others' work as well. Pay it forward when you can. Warmest regards, Irene Wheeler Merrill, California.

I just discovered our gravestone on this very helpful site (have used in many research projects for friends) and saw the floral tribute from you and Stacey/Stacie.

At first I was puzzled and then when I went to your site, I remembered you and your daughter.

Thanks for remembering.

I wish you well.

The Doug Sargeant family gathered in Iowa this month to hold a graveside service for Doug's wife's (Karen) brother in a small rural cemetery. Afterwards I led them on a visit to the cemetery where Harry and June Sargeant and other ancestors are buried. I gave each descendant a 16 p. booklet based on the genealogical research done by June (Pete's mother).

I'm not sure you met her, maybe only Harry's companion, Dorothy.

Anyway, I wish you well.

Melvin C Nelson
Julie, If Melvin Nelson was a telegraph operator, and in 1910 was living in Atlanta, then he was married twice--His first wife was Annie C who was the mother of 4 children and died in 1910. See her memorial and please let me know if I am incorrect.

Holt Felmet
My father's sister, Lillian, married a Holcombe from Holcombe's Cove in Candler. Uncle Reggie's parents had migrated to Candler from the Democrat area. His mother was Julia Carter Holcombe. I have never had reason to research the Holcombe family of Democrat.

RE: Hawkins/Felmet
Parents of Joseph McConnell Hawkins were W. Albert Hawkins (memorial #61648280) and Nancy Evaline Jones Hawkins (memorial #61648303). Please advise if you need further information.

Do you have an address of email for Jack Felmet's daughter? I have little info on that side of my family. I am looking for their connection to the Hyatts.

RE: Hawkins/Felmet
As I recall you were also related to Jack Felmet. How was that connection? Jack was born in 1905 and my father was born in 1907. They worked together at Felmet Bros Grocery (owned by my grandfather and two of his brothers) in Asheville as young men and hung around together. I noticed that Jack died at age of 45. What happened? I have a 1913 family photo that his family might appreciate a copy of. I know his brother Ralph (who died in WWI) was identified by my aunt and I think Jack is id'd at the age of eight. Did he leave children or grandchildren?

Do you still have the numbers for the links to the graves of My Uncle Will and Aunt Alice or should I resend?

RE: Ethel McLain & Eugene Holcombe
Hi! So nice to meet you! I see your name a lot on

A brick wall has reared its ugly head on my research with Ethel's husband's family. Do you have any information on them?

Hope you are happy in your new home!

RE: Hawkins/Felmet
Once your computer is up, please contact me at I assume Sarah is Jack's widow and Marcia is a daughter. My grandfather and Jack's father were 2 of the 3 bros who operated Felmet Bros Grocery in Asheville. So, Jack and my father were not only 1st cousons but also grew up in the same family business. Are you a lineal descendant of my Joseph McConnell Hawkins? If so do you have the family history written in 1932 by Katherine Hawkins based on conversations with her grandfather Joseph McConnell Hawkins?

Your Hawkins family and mine are the same. My great grandmother was Ellen Hawkins Felmet. She was a sister of Joseph McConnell Hawkins. I looked at your virtual cemeteries. Your Hawkins do not currently include my ancestress or their parents. You have a set of Felmets. But it is tied to Jack Felmet - my father's first cousin. I have wondered what happened to Jack. He and my father were close when young. They took trip to Fla together in the 1920's or early 1930's - before marriage. I came across Jack's photos recently in an Asheville book.

Hawkins, W A & Evaline
I think I just sent you a request for a link. I am trying TO link all of the children of W. Albert Hawkins and Evaline Hawkins. If you make that link you can go back several generations. I created a site for the original Hawkins burying ground in Buncombe.

I also am a transplant to eastern NC - Lillington.

Ethel McLain & Eugene Holcombe
Hi! I'm the youngest granddaughter of Ethel and Eugene. It's seems to be no problem to find info on the McLains, but the last Holcombe I can find is William Powell Holcombe, Eugene's father. The last info on him has him living with his daughter Lassie and her family in 1910. I thought no problem, Dad (Clement McLain Holcombe) said he thought that his grandparents had died together around 1900, but since Wm. is alone with Lassie in 1910 that did not turn out. He also said they were from Pickens, SC, but Wm Holcombe in SC is like John Smith, LOL. I'm at a loss. Any thoughts?

Hello Julie,
I have been researching my family name and building a family tree on ancestry. I wonder if our trees might have some common branches.
I have also done a DNA test which has revealed that I share markers with the name Bible.

thank you for contacting me. Your comments are very kind. So far I've had nothing but happy responses from families and each contact has made the work more than worth the time it is taking.

Hello Julia,
I'm sorry for the delay in responding to you. I just noticed that you had sent me a message. I don't recognize any of the Nelson family names that you referred to. If you would like a run-down on my branch of the Nelson family you can contact me on

Thomas L. Hyndman
Hi Julia, thanks to your mentioning this site, I have now joined up. Is there a way you can go in and fix that Josephine is actually not the mother of Thomas's children? Their mother is Sarah Evelyn Hamrick Hyndman, who is buried with Thomas on the Hyndman lot (their graves are marked by the stone that's in the photo I posted). Josephine was his second wife and I do believe they had a son also who died in infancy. It has been nice connecting with you!

Buncombe Genealogy
Julia Nelson,

I am trying to sort out a family with two marriages. Ruth Elizabeth Sharpe was first married to a John David Nelson, and then to Joseph Edwin Branch. Looking at the birth dates of her children, it seems that the John David Nelson married to Mary Ledford was perhaps her first husband. Do you know if this is correct?

My primary family is Pressley/Presley/Preslar. I am currently working Samuel Creasman and Mary Pressley descendants. There are many Creasmans within my Pressley family tree.

I use Find A Grave often. Thank you for your contributions.

Linda Flores
Lawrence nelson creasman
I can't believe it. I googled his name and this site was the first one I picked. He is my grandfather. I knew he was killed in a train wreck. My father was only 3 yrs old. I knew his name and that was it. My grandmother remarried later . I know virtually nothing about the Creasman side. I think my Dad's aunt was Aunt Mamie. I think she was a Creasman. I at least know my great grandparents names thanks to your information. My maiden name was Linda Creasman. I have lived in Michigan since age 5 (1953), so I am not local.. Thanks for your work. I now have some names. Linda Flores

Hello Julia,
I'm sorry it's taken me so long to acknowledge your message on Find A Grave, but I haven't signed in for sooo long.

It's always great to meet a cousin, no matter how distant! How are you related to the Nelsons?

I have the Bible records for Thomas Berry Nelson and Greenberry Nelson and there is a Walter Gray Cannon and May Cannon listed in the names. It doesn't say who they are, but I'm wondering if it's the Cannons you have in your data. I have searched and searched for any Cannons related to the Nelsons.

If you're interested in the Nelson genealogy I'll be glad to send you what I have. I'll also send you the Bible records if you want.

Hi Julia, Sorry I am not your cousin! This cemetery was near my house and I did my best to add it to Find A Grave. Since you are family, I have transferred the memorial to you, so that this person can be memorialized properly.
