|Susan Francis Bott and Bruce E Bott||Felix Wempe info|
Here's what was sent to me:
( These are notes from his cousin:)
My ideas about Felix stand at this time are following:
(maybe I told you my thoughts before but here goes)
Facts with Documentation:
Felix came to America as a blacksmith 1853 at age 32 with sister Catherine
Sept.1855 He had to be present, In Louisville (during Bloody Monday Riots)
St Boniface Church, Felix married Caroline Jan 13, 1856 Info: Felix Wemper age 36 Born in Germany residence Louisville married Caroline Fisber age 23 born in Germany
Rosa Wempe born in Louisville April 1857
Baptism St Boniface/ Infant twin died/ Documented in St Boniface Church records.
...my speculation with these facts:
Felix died, or was killed during the event of a robbery which is highly probable due to the amount of violence in Louisville against German and Irish immigrants. Our Family story states his hat was seen floating down the Ohio River, which makes us think he drowned after being thrown into the river after an attack or he was killed first and his body dumped in the river.
Dates of his untimely death would be between the conception of Rosa ...9 months before her birth: approx. July 1856-through the marriage of Caroline to Henry Moeller in Saint Boniface Church June 23, 1859.
Date of death sometime between July 1856-June 1859
So this 3 year span of time must be the time of his disappearance.
There is a baby Charles Wempe born to Henry ans Anna Wempe buried in Saint Michaels Cemetery: born Sept 1854 died 1855 Saint Martins.
The significance of this child is:
He is a Wempe born to a family who must be related to Felix. Buried in 1855 which is the earliest Wempe burial I can find in Louisville.
Location: St. Michaels
Date: Burial 1855 which is before the death of Felix by my calculations, by about a year more or less.
ROOM FOR THOUGHT:
The location being Saint Michaels Cemetery has given me thoughts which makes its possible that Felix would have been buried here.
Need to check Saint Martins records...I haven't done that. Even though Felix and Caroline were married in Saint Boniface, Saint Martins was also a German Catholic Church where our family may have visited.
Other assumptions of his where a bouts:
Drowned and floated down the river, body never found or never identified.
Drowned, body buried in New Albany..or someplace on the Indiana side when his body was found. John Doe Grave.

|Susan Francis Bott and Bruce E Bott||RE: Wempe|
Hi Mary Ellen,
I found a marriage record for a Felix Wempe who married a Caroline Fusber (? and that's what the marriage record actually looks like it says) on January 13, 1856 in Louisville. Someone else on Ancestry.com has a story (they have it private, but I will email them and see if they'll share with me) about a Felix Wempe being murdered in 1857. Like I said I'll ask if they'll share and let you know.
My husband's grandmother (Florence Helen "Flora" Wempe Bott) was a Wempe and they are all buried in St Michael's cemetery here in Louisville.
I'm not sure how or if they're related to Felix.
If you need any more info let me know.

Even though I was the creator of the memorial I am not related to Robert Thieman. GreenHillStonesCalling now manages the memorial as I transferred many memorials in Green Hills to her. She often adds info that is readily available on line to some memorials. I doubt if she is realted to Robert either. She is just being nice. I hope the information is accurate. It you would like to add your own info or edit what she has done just ask her for a transfer.

Thanks for this great picture and for adding the caption of what is written on the stone; it is often hard to read these very old markers.

I have put in quite a few picture requests from the UMC Cemetery in Riddle IN. Some are family and some are to try to make the cemetery records more accurate. Have a look at photo requests for the Riddle cemetery. I am sure that not all can be fulfilled. Also look at your email I sent more info there including a copy of the cemetery records. I would send some of the pictures I took but most of them are of Riddle gravestones.

If you EVER run into the Micklers (or Hecklers)in your research there, please give me a holler!!!! I'm over 1,000 miles away and what a journey! We were all from that area and we're looking at the end of the line here, and I'm hoping to leave a big footstep for all 7 of my grandbabies.

Not to mention that sometimes headstones are wrong! That slays me! It's really too bad too that the inscriptions don't dig in and last forever for all to read! I enlarge them on my computer screen, put on reading glasses, get out the magnifying glass, turn the light on bright -- and STILL can't read so many of them! One minute it looks like an 8, bat your eyes and it looks like a 3, couple of more bats and NO I do believe it's a 6! I've even tried the reversed colors and infrared in trying to discover what on earth was attempted into the stone.
These are part of my family group and I'm just starting on them -- along with 80,000 more! So you keep up the good work and maybe I'll learn something!
