Find A Grave
Cindy is there an Obed Smith in the family who might be buried in Alta Vista? There is a Jim Smith who is buried by him. Again dates don't match exactly but seems a possibility...closer dates than the others.

Alta Vista is super nice in helping look. I talked to a man there a few minutes ago. So far he hasn't come up with anyone matching those birth and death dates but took my number and said he would continue looking and call me back. There is a James W. Smith, Confederate Soldier, who was listed as born Feb. 26, 1850 and died May 8, 1943. Month and date is right for birth not anything else.

Cindy do you know what the W stood for? possible the middle name was used it on the stone. I looked for one Civil War solier for 2 year before I found on sentence in another pension file (3 envelopes thick) that said Bratcher was his middle name and that was what his comrades called him but gave his middle name which of course the pension was filed under so you never know.

I'll check again for a Jim Smith or J. W. Smith or a Jim W. Smith. The man is somewhere and it is probably Alta Vista. Just a matter of finding the right name. Watt is readable on the pictre but it is a light colored stone and I would like darker letters if possible. Will try in the morning if not raining.

Cindy, I went by Alta Vista today. They said they only have 2 James W. Smiths in their system. One died Feb. 22, 1986. Tae other one DOB 2/26/1850 and DOD 5/8/1943. Found Watt and Emma. Emma was listed by her maiden name not her middle name so found her accidentally as Emma Martin Smith not Emma Lee Martin. Walter Hunter was no problem to find. Can you give me any other clues on James W.? Could he have been buried as J.W. or by his middle name (whatever the W stood for). I'm about 5 minutes away from the cemetery and would like to try for a clearer picture of Watts' grave. It is a little lighter than I would like. Is it all right for me to use something on it to make the letters pop out a bit more?
