RE: Gravestone Photo Permission
Very nice website. Thank you for posting it for me to look at it. Of course you can use my photos. I haven't been able to get out this year but that was one of my early photos when I started being a volunteer. I've learned alot about photographing graves since and the last time I was able to go out was last October so my photos have greatly improved from my early beginner days. I am honored for you to use them. Thank you.

You may use the photos. That would be fine. There is a third one (close up of the stone for Theodore 1885-1947 and Adaline 1891-1962), although the light is not very good. Would you like that too? I will upload it if so. I do not live in DC and have no plans to return to Rock Creek Cemetery, but was glad to be able to fill some photo requests while there.

best wishes,
E. Hanson

You are most welcome. I searched the entire cemetery and didn't find James. I'll look again next time.

You sent the following:

Gravestone Photo Permission
I am happy to see that you photographed the gravestone of Candy Halford Stanfield in Polk Memorial Gardens.

I would like to add this gravestone photo to the (non-profit) Alford American Family Association's collection of North Carolina Obituaries, where her obituary will be included. You can see the current collection at

May I have your permission to include your gravestone photos? If so, the photo caption will say:

Photo from [cemetery name, city, county, state]—
Permission granted by the photographer, Record Hunter [or your name if you prefer]

And thanks so much for your gravestone photo work!

Best regards,
Pamela Alford Thompson (Find A Grave #47195155)
Obituaries Project Manager, Alford American Family Association.

Yes, you have permission to use the photos. It is so nice to have someone ask permission. Most people just use them without permission. Again, thanks and regards.

RE: Transfers?
Thank you for the offer, but I'm not related. (Well, I'm very, very, very distantly related, but not close enough to count. Ha!) No need for transfers. I was just being nosy and sending extra info when I found it. Thanks for making the fixes! :)

RE: Gravestone Photo Permission
Hi Pamela,

Thank you for asking for permission to use my gravestone photos,I would be honored for you to use them.

I am of the opinion that photos and memorials on Find A Grave are for the use and pleasure of my fellow family historians. I am only tring to do my small part in perserving histroy for future historians and because of this I don't feel that I own the memorials or photos.

All that I ask is that any photos that I have posted not be used for any monetary gain.

I have posted three memorials with photos of Alfords in the Oak Hill Cemetery that you are free to use as you need. If these are family members of yours I would be more than happy to transfer the memorials to you as they are of no relation to me.

Thank you,
Connie Kihara

Louis G Alford
Hi Pam,

Sometime ago, you submitted a photo request for the marker of Louis Alford at KY Veterans Cemetery North, which I claimed and fulfilled. They had just mowed at the cemetery that day, leaving many of the markers with grass stains. The photo I posted was with the marker stained pretty bad... Shame on me.

I've removed the grass stained photo and replaced it with a better photo.

I feel better, now.

Take care!
