Nelson Appleton Miles
I noticed that you left a photo of the medallion on the Miles Mausoleum at Arlington National Cemetery. Thought you might want to know who these eleven people were.

********************************************
Lt. General Nelson Appleton Miles Find a Grave #2289
Mary Hoyt Sherman Miles, his Wife, #42202751
Col. Samuel Reber, Son-in-Law, #42202196
Cecelia Sherman Miles Reber, Daughter, 42203174
Yulee Noble Miles, Daughter-in-Law, 42203128
Colgate Hoyt, Mary's Nephew, 42202885
General Sherman Miles, Son, 42203106
Allyn Richmond Wight, Grand Son-in-Law, 42202946
Nanita Yulee Miles Wight, Grand Daughter, 42203669
Nelson Appleton Miles, Grand Son, 42228493
Miles Reber, Grand Son, 42203306

********************************************

They are listed top to bottom. Colgate is the only one not descended from Lt. Gen. Miles. If you know "Cut & Paste" you may want to add the text between the stars to the photo of the medallion. Don't include the Stars and I want no acknowledgement for this data, Please!

Hi Shawna,

I'm an historian and fellow Find a Grave contributor. Could you transfer John Hood, 58464080 to me? I've written a biography for the men who served as CO of battleship Texas.

Thanks,
James Thomas

RE: Hugh Saunders Stevenson
Hi Shawna,

First, thank you for maintaining his Find-A-Grave memorial. You're doing a great job.

Second, do you have any photos of Hugh's wife? Or other photos of Hugh and his children? His son, Charles, is my grandfather. I would greatly appreciate receiving copies if possible. My email is csgarcia@socal.rr.com.

Third, didn't know if you knew or not, Hugh was a builder/contractor.

Fourth, the family home in Snow Hill is known as Chanceford Hall. There are many pics of it on Google Images. Good thing, too. After they were taken, someone purchased the house but couldn't hold onto it. His last act was to strip the home of its beautiful woodwork and mantels.

Family Stories about Hugh: During the Civil War, he vowed he would not shave his beard off until the South won, as evidenced by the pictures on his memorial. There is also a family story that he was imprisoned for about a year by the Yanks. Haven't been able to confirm that story though.

Edward Frank Jackson Memorial
I'm a cousin of Edward Frank Jackson and just found the memorial that you entered. I've been doing some family research and was surprised to find he was a rear admiral. I wonder if you would like to link his parents' memorials to his? I've already set them up. His father was Frank Jackson memorial 69292464. His mother was Charlotte MacSwain Jackson memorial 69292606. Thanks in advance!

RE: James Bootes--Naval Academy
It seems like two mistakes are going on: I looked at it with a magnifying glass and it is a 4 instead of a 1, but the last number is a 6. And as you say the form says 5 for the last number. Must have been a mistake with the engraving.

Whatever you want to do is fine. And, really, thanks so much for all your hard work out there in the fields!

My first search on the name got his father, a former CNO, but with no death or burial information. I found the grandfather, a former superintendent, but have been unable to reopen the CNO's memorial to post the section and plot information that I got from the 2005 cemetery unventory for thememorial's creator to use. can you find James L. III? He is buried in Section 07 Plot 1586.

Happy to help! Now, thanks to your help tying them in, people can follow this shared chain more seamlessly. Now that average civilian descendants aren't allowed in to the secured Academy grounds cemetery any longer, it's very helpful to have the pictures made accessible on findagrave.

I did not see a memorial for the wife. I assume she is buried next to John Wiley in First Baptist Cemetary.
