Sally Buckingham
L C Beall Vashon Island
Dear Shirley... I am Sally Buckingham DAR Member & Live in Washington State. Mountlake Terrace... the Washington State Daughters are in the process of DAR Marker History Book.... I have traveled all over Washington State in search of DAR markers to photograph & submit history for the book. My Question is: Do you have a digital picture of the DAR marker in the Vashon Cemetery ? Our picture is an old Kodac picture Black and White...and I cannot read the inscription... the DAR would have helped raise money for the Rock Wall... however, NSDAR would have not approved the commemoration of the Cemetery alone... but would have accepted the Memorial to L C Beall... Pioneer on Vashon island. NSDAR is in support of Historic Preservation... and many pioneers are buried in the Cemetery...can you help me ?????

Hi Shirley, I was at the cemetery today and took a couple of pictures around the Beall plots. I see from the memorial listing for Lewis Beall Sr. that there was no picture of the large family stone or one that showed the relationship between Lewis' stone and that of the large family marker. Your note about the plaque on a wall near the Lewis and Magruder Beall stones is a little hard to address. There is a partial cement wall around the family plot but there is no additional plaque there. The Beall plots are right against the boundary of the cemetery and there is a low, rough stone wall that passes a few feet from the Beall plot, a wall with a small entrance into the cemetery, also right by the Bealls. It looks like there could have been a plaque on one of the low pillars on one side of the opening, on the side of the pillar away from the cemetery. I would have thought that if there were a plaque there it would be something like a "Vashon Island Cemetery" plaque, not something specific to the Bealls. Whatever it was, it is long gone. On the other hand, the Bealls were an early and prominent family on the island: maybe they had their "own" entrance into their area of the cemetery. I have a picture of this opening and where the plaque would have gone if you would like it. Just would need an e-mail address. I am at Barry

Hi Shirley,
I'm not sure if you meant to send this to someone else. I will not be able to help you with your question as I am not familiar with the Centralia area. Thanks :)

Yes, the DAR marker is inside the fenced family plot. If you save the picture that shows the opening to the plot, I think it is the sixth photo, and enlarge it on your computer you will see the DAR marker. It's behind and to the right of the large monument at the front of the family plot.

George Washington's Memorial
Hello Shirley,
Thank you for the write-up. It was something I had planned on adding, but hadn't gotten around to it. Thank you for the reminder. It is added to his memorial giving you credit.
Best regards,

Tenalquot added the photo so you could ask him where he found it and if it is in the public domain. He does work as a local historian so there's a chance he has access to more photos of him.

Photo request for John Brady
Hi Shirley

I went to Anderson Cemetery to take this photo and all I could find was the plot marker. There is no headstone. If you have any more information that might help please let me know.

Ellen Smith's online memorial
My name is Barbara Houtenbrink and our DAR Chapter, Sacajawea, is working with the Secretary of States Office on the Legacy Project.
Members of the DAR are working on the biographies of the original members of Sacajawea and we are also researching the Washington State Regents. This research will be available on line to residents of Washington State, and others. One of our members did research Ellen Smith and now we would like to add the pictures of her grave site to that information. No Washington State money is available for this project. All work is voluntary. Is it possible to have a copy of Ellen's Smith's memorial to add to the data base?
Thank you,
Barbara Houtenbrink, Historical Preservation Chair

RE: Simon House
Hey Shirley, looks as if we are double cousins both living on west coast! I believe I go back to Samuel Knapp then to Francis Knapp and his daughter, Hannah Knapp married a John Cornwall in Danbury, CT. Johann Michael is my 4G.grandfather and I too am in DAR on his account. Do you have a private E-mail at which I can contact you? If not all I can say is to look up a descendant of "Michael's" on Indianola Road and that will be the address you want. I don't wantt to give person's name since all can read this message. Do you live in the western or eastern side of WA? I love your western side. Gorgeous state!!

RE: Simon House
Hi Shirley:
Question 1: Are you a Simon? Let me know what your connection is to the "Simon House" and I can better help. Question 2: Are you a Knapp from CT?
