There is a slightly earlier memorial at #117387510 perhaps you could arrange with the manager to consolidate information and have the second one deleted. Thanks!-Mike N

RE: headstone

I have already notified the person who added the picture in Feburary because someone else brought it to my attention but they have not done anything. Sorry, I don't know what else to do. I looked to see if I could remove it and wasn't able to.

Blessings, Christine (Beverly's daughter)

Transfer of Memorials

The Hess's in the Fairmount Springs Cemetery are all relatives of my maternal Grandfather, Nathan Hess and as such, I want to continue to maintain them in my acount. I hope that you understand my decision since they are my Hess relatives..

Glen, I am transfering Oren Ralph Hess to you. Leonard Sapone tranfered him to me by mistake. He transfers to me so many Hess's that when he saw the name Hess I think he just assumed it was me.

Thank you for the transfer, I just updated his Memorial page. The call from CA was most probably Kathi, her husband died in Vietnam with one of our units and she was instrumental in helping me locate all of our Fallen.

RE: Hi there

RE: Hi there
HEY! I come in here quite alot and I usually take the time to check on Norma, it's been a long time since you had been there. I'll check today to see if you were there. I was having trouble getting in here so late on the Christmas messeges.
And, I have a phone, call me. Oh heck I better call you since it may be years before you check this site.
Catch you later.

Patty Thoma Matthews
RE: Great Grandfather
Hi Glen,
I have a little more information on him.
He was a corporal in Co. H, 107th PA Inf.
He died 29 Nov 1899 and is buried in Fairmount Springs Cemetery.

I am sending you his pension cards (2) and his enlistment card.

He is not listed in my genealogy group's Wilkes-Barre Record Almanacs, or in the files, so there is most likely no obit in our local newspapers. You might have to look for a Shickshinny area paper.

His wife filed for Widows' Pension, so there is most likely a file for him in the National Archives in Washington, DC.
Hope this helps,

RE: change of dates
Dear Glenn,
That memorial was created by a Glenn Hess (might that not be you) and I do not have the ability to touch it. Although I have a picture for the cemetery and many memorials of my own family in there I can not change others memorials. If it is some other Glenn I suggest you contact him. Sue

RE: Glens Grandparents
The address for the Berwick Historical Society is 344 Market St. Berwick Pa 18603. It's in the Jackson Mansion. Seems they found an almanac handwritten by Ben Franklin and sold it at a N.Y. auction for nearly $1 million. It's a really large house for a society!!!

RE: Glens Grandparents
Hi Glen. I have some good news for you today. I found Samuel and Samantha Hess in the records at the Historical Society. I have the obituaries for both (from the newspaper "The Benton Argus") and I have a copy of Samantha's death certificate. Unfortunatly Samuel died in Berwick and our records do not include Berwick. Berwick has it's own historical society and I'm sure his certificate could be found there. I was also able to locate the addresses of Sam and Samantha as well as Ernest's, Oran's, and Stanton's from 1928. I'd be more than happy to mail this info to you if you would like to have the 'hard copy' for your records. Just let me know.

We called the funeral parlor that has the burial records and were informed there has been some confusion over the name of the cemetery they are located. It was the Methodist Episcopal Church at one time and at another it was the Faith United Methodist Church. The cemetery associated with the church is located 1/4 mile from the church but I am unable to locate an actual name for the cemetery except it is in Fairmont Springs.

Hope this helps you. If, for safety reasons you do not wish to post your address, you could write to me at the Historical Society at 225 Market St in Bloomsburg Pa 17815 and I will mail the material to you. Just address the note to Museum Director but be sure your return address shows so it's not discarded by mistake.

RE: Glens Grandparents
Thank you Glen for the additional info. I'm sure it will help me to locate the proper family. When families back then named the children the same names each generation it makes it hard to know if I'm looking at the right ones. Thanks for your work that helps my work quite a bit. I'll be looking into this for you and I'm hoping for some good news this week so watch for my note.
