thank you so much for taking this photo. It is a big help to those doing genealogical research on their families.

Mary Carnes Cooper Abbott Gee
I am a descendant of Joseph William Abbott, Mary's son by Nathan Abbott. We are searching for Mary's family and wondered if you knew where in Indiana she came from or what her father's name might be. Any help you have would be wonderful.

Contact me by personal email. I have some questions for you. I have several other Thurmans for you and your Hannah isn't really a Hannah. Her name was Maria according to the funeral home records.

RE: John & Christina Dinkle
No, they're the only two. It's possible there might be infants buried there, but not known for sure as these are the only two markers and no other records.

RE: John & Christina Dinkle
You're welcome :) I don't know if you saw the captions under my photos, but they are actually not buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, they are buried right on the campus of Bridgewater College, which used to be their family farm (about 1-2 miles from Greenwood). I wrote the guy who has the memorials to let him know. Also the spelling on their stones was Dinkel, but Dinkle/Dinkel was pretty much interchangeable back then, even among one family. And Christena was spelled with an E. I hope you get a chance to visit it some time, as I am surprised the college students haven't done something to it by now.

RE: Brownlow
Yes, the cemetery is decorated for Memorial Day. The grounds are well-maintained. The irises and peonies have bloomed. There are some Kansas wildflowers outside the cemetery. The cemetery stands on a hill with a view of the surrounding prairie. Nearby the cattle are grazing.

It is quite pretty

Thank you so much for your info. I was thinking that the find-a-grave info as no known location was possibly for the reason u gave, so glad to have the correct info as to where he is buried. I had not been aware that historical societies might put these type of books out. I live in Nebraska and have not seen this type of resource around here for local counties; it's a great idea! I need to check that out. Again thank you!!!! Judy

Does your public library have access to "Newsbank" (I think that is the name) which has many recent American death notices and obits. My scanner doesn't work so I can't e-mail the obit-if you have a PO Box I'd be happy to snail mail a copy to you.

I have some info about Mildred. She is one generation up from me. I do not know who her parents were. Ruth seems correct.

Thurman Family Picture
I noticed you have posted a picture with G-Grandma and her Byerly siblings. I noticed another sibling was added. Is there a picture with all 13 Thurmans? I only have a snapshot with 7 and a picture of my grandma and your grandma when they were little darlings.

RE: Brownlow Cemetery
The cemetery is a little difficult to find. You have to take gravel roads to get there. It stands on a hill above a creek. An ancient spruce tree greets you at the entrance. The cemetery is well maintained. It is peaceful, a nice resting place.

Those interred at Brownlow are among the original settlers of eastern Butler County. Brownlow itself, I am guessing, was a town that never quite made it.

Hi Elizabeth. I added the information pertaining to Mrs. Applegate's DAR membership. Do you know how she was a DAR member, e.g., was it through her paternal or her maternal lineage?

Photo Request greenwood cem
Hi Elizabeth, I received a request for taking a photo at Greenwood cemetery. I will be happy to fulfill this request, however due to the heavy snow that we have experienced this winter I may have to delay until a thaw. I may have trouble locating grave and getting a good picture. If someone else gets to it first, great. I will keep it on my list and hope for spring time weather soon.

It will be on Illinoisancestors.org at this link:

Please take a look at the other township summaries I've done. If you send me your personal email, I would be happy to send you the information I have on the Thurman family, which will be included in the summary. Janet
