Daniel Benson
HI Ron,
Thank you for posting this stone and information. I am descended from Harriet Benson who m. Cephas Williams in Winhall VT. She is said to be a dau. of John Benson & Elizabeth and was b. in Stanstead PQ,CA. I have been searching for her f. & m. for many years and now believe they may have d. in CA and the ch. farmed out with Benson relatives in Winhall-ch. of Daniel. This is based on Winhall census records which I went through yesterday. I wondered how Harriet ended up marrying Cephas, when I could not find her parents anywhere in VT. I think now I know. But of course there is much research to do to confirm these assumptions. The information you provide is helping with this project Thank you!

Not listed in Angelo, meaning if she is buried there, there is no headstone.
and A. Ellis is the only one listed in Oak Grove, also meaning he was the only one with a headstone at the time Ralph listed them all.

AHA Ananias...
I looked at the other listing, which just has the names, and A Ellis is listed, so at that time when Ralph Henderson transcribed the cemetery there was a headstone for Ananias.. and it is recorded in the Monroe Co History room. So chances are it is on the map at the cemetery. ...sorry to confuse you!

Hi, I attempted to look up their lot in the Oak Grove Cemetery and they are not listed on the online cemetery listing on Lutheransonline where I get most of my info for this cemetery. However, I will leave the request and maybe it is on the map at the cemetery. I am not sure when I will be going to the cemetery to photograph, its been pretty cold and they keep the hilly sections roped off until warm weather.

Yes I am, but I never received those records. Contact Edward Geer at This address was good about a year ago. If this is no longer his address, let me know. I will track him down. I had to do it once before for a man from England who was researching his mother's family.

He hasn't put anything new on that tree in years. He has it all in a genealogy program now.

RE: Lyman Benson
No, I haven't seen your line in the links, however, I did find your father in the 1940 census, and that he was born in S Dakota. And no, I haven't seen the book by Richard Benson. I figured out (if I figured right) that my cousin Ronald and I are 4th cousins to your Dad.

RE: Lyman Benson
I descend from Lyman Benson down thru his son Lyman Martin, then Hiram Carlton, then to Ray Everett and his son George Raymond Benson (My father). A few more of us cousins out here. So, we really aren't too distant cousins after all.

Sorry, I do not know much about Moses, other than what I see, or have entered on familysearch/familytree. What I know was taken from the book "History of Royalton Vermont".

Lyman Benson and Amelia (Emillia) Flint are my 3-ggrandparents. Thanks for putting pics on here. I know the cemetery well - went to school in South Royalton Vermont. I have a 1st cousin, Ronald Benson that still lives in Royalton.

Moses Benson
Hi Ron,

I descend from Moses Benson, through his son, Daniel. You make this mention on Moses' memorial page: "Family Bible records were published in the Boston Transcript"

Where can I find the Boston Transcript that you mention?

Thank you,
Keith Hart

Hi Ron,
You are very welcome for the pictures. Let me know if there are anymore you'd like. Thank you for sharing Peter Benson's history.

I will try to make it back to that cemetery & look for other Bensons. It's a very nice, small cemetery. It's not easy to find though, sits upon a hill & is not visable from the road. There are no signs. I set out just to look for it as Brookline is a small rural town - thought it would be easy to locate! Finally, I asked a couple who where out for a walk if they knew where the Austin Cemetery was. They told me about one about a mile back & warned me I'd have to climb up the embankment as the property with road access is posted.

If you ever make it to Vermont, let me know because I can take you right to it now!
