RE: Yates / West Families
Judith, I am sorry, you have the wrong line. John F. Yates' wife was Martha Lou Tishey Yates. They are both buried in Longcreek Cemetry. I have never run across A Cuba Yates in my searches.

I was raised in Mesquite and there are a lot of Yates in that area. John's brother William Alfred
Yates came to Mesquite in the 1890s. Most of my family are buried in Longcreek Cemetery just out of Mesquite.

I can't think of anything that you can do unless, you might have a photo ofJEP Simpkins for the program. There will be programs printed for the service, and yes there will be a photo of the headstone added to his memorial page. I will keep you informed along the way.

we have some "Vaughan"s in our family, too - mostly from around Hunt & Hopkins counties in Texas. Do you have a Charles Wesley of a McKinley (Kinley) Vaughan in your line? Maybe we're related

No, the Vaughans you mention do not ring a bell.

I just thought you would like to know that I have just today been authorized a Confederate head stone from the Veterans Administration, and after it's delivery I will install it and there will be a marker dedication cerimony with full military honors. If you would like for me to, I will send you the information once the details have been finalized.

Please used the edit and suggest a correction form on her memorial to ask the question. That way I will be sure and have the correct person. If it is not a memorial that I created - send Memorial number. Thanks

Hello Judith,

You are quite welcome, it was my pleasure to add any information to help anyone in their research. No, I am not related to the Simpkins, the reason for our interest is Historical. I am a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans and my wife is a member of The United Daughters of the Confederacy and we also volunteer for It is about a 2 hour drive from Mesquite to here, and if given enough advance notice I would be happy to show you the cemetery. There is also a grand-daughter of J.E.P. Simpkins still living here as well.
If you would like you can email me for anything else I might can help you with.

RE: More history
This is wonderful! I have only started searching a short time ago but wanted to find out all I could. What I am looking for also is where the family members originated. I am going to go to the local genealogical society in Williamson and Franklin counties in Southern Illinois and see what else I can find. Thats where I found much of what I have so far. The census records gave me good start, but no information as to where the family actually originates yet. Thank you so so much! Will keep you posted!

More history
I recently have started a search of my family history and wanted let you know of something I found. Rhoda Priddy married Charles Colp (my great great grandparents) and of their children they had a son named Pettis Colp (my great grandfather), Pettis Colp married a woman Nancy Melinda Clifton who then became Colp (my great grandmother), they had a daughter Elsie Colp (Jarvis). She married Lawrence Jarvis (my grand parents) and they had 5 children. One of the children was my mother Viola Jarvis.

RE: great granny
Yea. Sad I missed the reunion. I had to work and I believe Mama and Daddy were out of town.

I have several more pictures of Granny and her family. I would br more than happy to share them with you. Every time I am in Celeste, I pick Granny Pat's brain and she pulls out pictures and articles. I enjoy it..but I know there are blanks she isn't able to fill. If only I had been old enough to write things down from Great Granny.

I would love any info you have on the Ward family. I just recently found out some of them lived around here. So I would like to find out if they have any kids and grandkids around.
