My pleasure Cindy! Next to him is Edward Tharp (1930-2004). Is that one of your relatives too?

Photos 4 You
RE: Edna Clowser buried in Macedonia Memorial Cemetery
Hi again,
We were over to Macedonia Cemetery again yesterday
and gave your Edna Armel Clowser another search.
We found Charles H and Mabel, her parents. There
were other children near them, but sadly, not
If she is there, I guess there is not a stone to mark her place.

RE: Edna Clowser buried in Macedonia Memorial Cemetery
Hi Cindy,
You are welcome. We thought someday if we were
out for a drive and had some time, we would stop
at the Church office (has very short hours of operation!) and check again to see if they had
any record of her.
Joan and Bill

Your Williams ancestors in Maryland
I am a descendant of a sister of Catherine (Snyder) Williams, wife of Elijah Williams and mother of your John Williams who married (2) Margaret Kailor. My ancestor is Mary (Snyder) Donaldson, wife of Thomas, and one of her daughters, Sarah, married Jacob Kailor so there may be a connection there as well. I'm writing to ask if you know anything about the Snyder family. All I have is a Washington Co., MD Equity Court record which gives the names of six Snyder siblings: Abraham, Henry, Elizabeth (married a Kline or Cline), Peter, Mary (married Thomas Donaldson), and your Catherine (married Elijah Williams).

It isn't legal at all to resell a gravesite... A lot of the older churches say their burial records have disappeared when someone in charge of them leaves the church or dies, so unless there's a marker, they have no way of knowing; convenient excuse. I know this happens for real but not as often as I've been told that!! And as long as they sell the really old gravesites, they know there will only be wrappings or very little left of a wooden casket, so they're in the clear as long as the people who open the graves keep their mouths shut!!!
A lot of cemeteries have turned into grazing land for livestock (cattle, horses, sheep). Of course they are destroyed soon after the animals have free reign on that land. Those landowners get angry & tell you that there was no record of who was buried there anyway & expect you to agree that that's alright!!!!
Then you have private landowners who just don't want a marked cemetery on their property, so they have the stones bulldozed over!!!
There was a cemetery in Romney, WV that is now a parking lot. Headstones were bulldozed & broken & any that were still readable were heaped into a pile in the back of Indian Mound Cem!!! They thought the public should feel better about it when they said that "most" of the remains had been moved to Indian Mound as well!!!!
I don't know how people that desecrate graves can sleep at night!!! A cemetery, whether it's one grave or thousands, is a sacred final resting place...

RE: Re: Annie M. Haines, Memorial #37064093
Thanks for the addt'l info Cindy!!!
Sorry, I meant to include the name of Ralph L. Triplett's book,,, CEMETERIES OF HAMPSHIRE COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA, VOLS 1 - 4.
I am amazed & saddened by how many cemeteries have disappeared/ been destroyed & by how many graves are no longer in the cemeteries they are supposed to be in! One historian told me that some churches are actually selling the really old grave sites because no one comes to the older ones anymore, & because they used wooden caskets or just wraps, no one can prove that they buried someone on top of someone else; Dear God; that kind of stuff upsets me so much!!! As does the cemeteries on private property in WV; if prop owner says you can't come on their land, there is not much you can do; so sad & wrong!!!
I could go on all day about people letting cattle destroy cemeteries; moving some graves & paving over the rest,...
Thanks Again! Good Luck!

Thank You so much for the info on Mrs, Haines, Cindy... I would love to see a copy of Maud Pugh's book; looks like most of my ancestors are from Hampshire, Hardy, & Morgan Co, Va/WV. Thanks to Mr. Triplett's book, I have found a few of my relatives & their maiden names. The women are so hard to find any info on.
I am so frustrated still trying to find my great great grandmother's maiden name; she was last married to a Dan Catlett (can't find any info at all on him, not even where he might be buried)& lived in Gore,(Frederick Co) Va; before him, it was a Bowley fellow; William I think. There was 3 Isabelle's at the time & 2 had awful reputations, so the old folks memeories of which one was which just makes it that much more confusing! Ha Ha! She could have been an Elliott or a Triplett or ?
Thanks again for the info!
Take Care! Anita
