RE: Leah LaForce's parents
I doubt the Sederberg history would help with my question, but just in case you may have heard something,I will tell you the story. Lucy LaForce had daughter Leah LaForce (my grandmother) in 1898 (maybe Valparaiso or probably Chicago)and as an unmarried mother, I believe. Later she married Fabian Sederberg and had son Carl and she died not many years later. I met my Uncle Carl and family when I was around 7-8 years old. So Leah and Carl were half brother and sister. My mom stayed in touch with Ruby (Carl's wife) & Carl. My dad died in 1973 before anyone was into genealogy. Many years later when I got interested in genealogy I wrote to Ruby (Carl was very ill at this time)about who was Leah's (his half sister) father. She wrote back that any that would have known were gone, but the rumor she knew was that he was a cousin from the DeWells line. Twenty some years later a hint popped up naming Clarence LaForce DeWells, born 1896 in Chicago to Edward DeWells and Lucy LaForce. I have never found anything else on either Edward or Clarence. No birth certificate on Leah and she died when my dad was about 12 so I never met her. My dad's father was something evil out of a Cinderella story along with his 2nd wife or possibly his second wife along with her evil daughters was the problem, so my dad left his father's house at about 15, so I never met my grandfather either even though he lived in the area to about 78 yrs. of age. If you have any knowledge or hints I would appreciate! Lee

Lucy's parents
That is Lucy LaForce Sederberg! If you know anything about this family I have a big question in regard to her daughter Leah.

Lucy's parents
Lucy's parents were Mitchell Laforce and Matilda DeWells LaForce. You can find their engraved tombstone in Graceland Memorial Park in Valparaiso, Porter Co., Indiana. Wondering where you got their names if there was no tombstone for Lucy. Are you related? She was my paternal great grandmother.

David Hopkins Memorial# 66370275
Hi Eva,
Jane sent me a photo of the headstone for David Hopkins Memorial# 66370275. She visited on Sunday with the owners of the B&B. She shared the information that you gave her and what I had to give to her.

I have posted the photo. I gave photography credit to Jane. Could you add to the two photos that David is her 4greats-grandfather. (He is my 5greats-grandfather).

She said the stone needs to be cleanup around it and on the stone. She said that once we clean the stone with the proper method we will be able to list all of the wording on the headstone.

No way!
Why are you researching Frances if you don't mind me asking? I'm going to look through my family tree for her.

Leona was my Aunt too. Well, we called her Aunt Leona. She was my Grandma's sister. Gertrude was my Grandpa's sister. Jim and Beulah (Morse) Barnett were my Grandparents. I don't believe I know the people you're asking about. Do you know if there might be a relation with the Barnett's or Morse's?

Added by RUAbarnett on Jun 05, 2014 8:36 AM

Hello Eva
I got a request from you to add Gertrude Barnett's obituary. She was my Aunt. Did you know her?

Wolfgang Wittich
I'm trying to track down Wolfgang's daughter, Mary Jane Wittich. Do you know if she married, and if so, what her married name is? Any other information about her would be helpful as well.

Thank you.

90735258 FIND A GRAVE
Hello Eva:
Your report above IS my grandfather. As I understand he was buried next to his wife Louisa at Westville Cemetery, not Furnessville. I have not been able to find a headstone for either. Since there was an autopsy done maybe there is a record in either Michigan City or Chestertons medical office. Maybe you can shed some light on this.

As to your report showing the oldest ancestor as Jacob, he was not born in Germany but in Scotland. I have his military enlistment record showing Scotland as his birth place.
I have never been able to find the city where he was born(1726) or where in NY he was buried. I have a picture of his wifes grave stone.
Thanks for you input.

RE: Catherine Barrett
Yes, she is the one. There were three William Barretts born about the same time and living in the same area. Some websites list the son of Alexander and Malona as the husband of Sophia Ellen Brewer. I traced the Alexander Barrett (thinking it was mine)line for quite some time until I received the obitury for Catherine Barrett. I was trying to figured out why my grandma would have this obit. Catherine was my grandma's great aunt.

Anyway, just wanted to compared notes and see.

I know Catherine and William's (my 2nd ggp) mother was Mary Elizabeth Young. I found her and Jacob's marriage entry in Miami County, Ohio in 1832. I believe she died between 1850-1853 and that all I know of her. I don't know where she is buried or her parents.

Paul Tilden

Their suggestion:
I really don't think Paul Tilden is buried at Calvary cemetery. The obituary
doesn't say. Edmonds & Evans don't give the cemetery - just that they performed
the cremation.

Paul's children are all buried at Calumet Park cemetery in Merrillville. I
would bet he would want to buried with his children.

You very well might be correct, that's why I put the obit on the memorial for further research if a family member is looking. I'll add a little not to his memorial. Kathy

Catherine Barrett

I was wondering if you had more information on her or her parents? She is my 2nd great aunt. I inherited some papers a while back and one of them was an original obituary for her.

Anything you have would be helpful.

Yes!! We'll be so happy to add the picture. Maybe you can contact the cemetery and have them engrave his death date. I'm sure it has to be family member to contact them.
For now we'll add the picture we have, which was taken today.

David Hopkins photo
Hi Eva, I spoke with our registrar from my DAR chapter today. I was mistaken, she does not have a photo of her ancestor with David Hopkins. She does not have a photo of her ancestor either. She has books with her ancestor and David Hopkins listed next to each other. She has found several documents that he signed during his term as New York Senator, but no photos.

Maybe someday a photo of him be found.

RE: Adaline DePoitier Brown
Charlie is my cousin on the O'Bringer side of our family. Our Brown's are different families. I do talk to Charlie.

I would love the information you have in the notebook. I am ecstatic to have a picture of great grandma Brown. I already have the one you posted for my great grandpa Brown from my Mom's records.
I have been researching great grandma Brown for years and so very difficult with only seeing Mrs. Joseph Brown...........

I finally got her maiden name from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Otis several years ago, but so much information missing. If I could contact another family member somehow it would be so great.

Thank you. Let me know if I need to send you some money for sending me anything or copying anything.

RE: Adaline DePoitier Brown
Do you know who brought in the box of pictures that I might contact someone. The someone must be a relative of mine. I grew up in Michigan City and my relatives lived in Westville, Otis, and surrounding areas.

Thank you,
