RE: Isreal Culpan
A few minutes ago, clicking on West Yorkshire shows no further options. "Save Changes" and then viewing the memorial - there's Warley. Find A Grave outsmarts me again!

You suggested "Warley" as his place of birth - it's not an option for West Yorkshire

Hi,
You sent me an edit request to update the birth and death places of my great grandfather, Francis "Frank" Baker. Thank you for pointing out that I forgot to fill that information in. Also, I'm wondering if you are related in some way to Frank?

Corrections made. His wife's obit also gives 1993 as her husband's death date. Many tombstones were carved in correctly if it is an 8. Maybe an 8 corrected to a 3. Mary Thanks.

Sorry that I'm only now getting back to you, but I wanted to thank you for the information regarding Mary Catherine Young Byers' parents. That certainly straightens out things. Thanks!

RE: Keziah Jones & Mary C Byers
Dewey:
Sorry for the delayed response about Adam Pickenpaugh's 2nd & 3rd wives.

The information that I have is:

Keziah Jones was born in Indiana in 1834 and was the daughter of John & Sarah Jones. She married Adam Pickenpaugh on November 15, 1874 in Davis Co., Iowa. She and Adam had one unnamed child who died in infancy. Keziah died on March 12, 1891 in Davis Co.

Mary Catherine Byers was born in Jefferson Co., West Virginia in 1828 and was the daughter of Abraham & Margaret (Bramwell) Byers. She married Adam Pickenpaugh on April 7, 1892 in Wapello Co., Iowa. They had no children. Mary died on December 26, 1908.

I believe both of them are buried at Bethlehem Cemetery in Davis Co., IA in unmarked graves (like Adam Pickenpaugh), because Adam was one of the founders of the Bethlehem Church in 1868 (then known as the Money Church, after the landowner, William Money) and was a life-long member. He is buried next to his first wife, Lydia Cordelia Sanders, who is the only one with a headstone at Bethlehem.

I see you have his third wife as Mary Catherine Young Byers. I would be interested in seeing your information. My understanding is that Mary's maiden name was Byers, but my information on that point hasn't been thoroughly verified.
Sincerely,
Craig Rasmussen

RE: Adam Pickenpaugh
Hi Dewey:
Thanks for contacting me regarding Adam Pickenpaugh's death date. My grt-grt-grt-grandfather did indeed die on April 19, 1910 (I have his death certificate and obit), despite the fact that he was recorded in the 1910 census taken one week later on April 26th.

I understand your confusion, but there is a simple explanation for this 'phenomenon'. Census information is collected based on a specific date (aka 'enumeration date') set by the Census Bureau, and has nothing to do with the date when the information is actually collected.

The Census Bureau set April 15, 1910 as the enumeration date for the 1910 Census, and counting began AFTER that date. So when census enumerators went to people's homes, they asked who was living in the household on April 15th, regardless of whether they were gathering the information on April 26th, or May 3rd, or whenever. The enumeration date can be found on the original 1910 Census form under the 'Name' column.

Adam Pickenpaugh was one of those few people in the country in 1910 who were alive on the enumeration date, but died before a census enumerator came to their home. He died four days after the enumeration date, but seven days before the enumerator came to his home - so he was still counted.

Just for information sake, the enumeration date also applies to births. Children who were born after April 15, 1910 (such as on April 19th) were not counted by Census enumerators in 1910, even if they were a part of the household when enumerators came to their homes.

Thanks again for contacting me. I hope the information helps. By the way, are you related to Adam Pickenpaugh?
Sincerely,
Craig

You are correct - and in my photo file I have the name as Martha, not Maria. Thanks for the nudge.
