Nahum F Hanley
Hi John,
My grandmother was Emma Williams Evans. Her sister Mayme Williams married Nahum F Hanley, son of Nahum F and Delia Gomes Hanley. I never met Great Uncle Nahum, as I only met Great Aunt Mayme after she was widowed and moved back to Lincoln County, Mississippi.
What can you tell me about him, his parents and siblings?

Thank you.

RE: David Brooke memorial
Thanks so much! Who were your parents? I know there is an Elmer that is buried where Grandpa Brooke (David is)...Is that your Dad?

RE: David Brooke memorial
Thanks so much! I wasn't sure if you were the one who had spoken to my Dad (who passed away in 2013) and my Mom or not! So glad to hear you are! How can I add a sibling? Thanks for contacting the correct person to add the links to Louisa's info.
I know Dad enjoyed speaking to you very much and I know Mom did also! Miss Dad terribly.

Mary Harris Love Hanley
I just found an old newspaper article (Oregon Sentinel, February 19, 1879) that tells about Mary's mother, Sophie Harris who married John S. Love, and her parents, in October 1855. I can send you the link to the article if you haven't seen it already.

Anna Margaretta Klein Reber
Hello John,

I am Anna's 6th great-granddaughter and I am writing to ask if you would consider transferring management of her memorial (53612514) to me. I have a translation of the German that was inscribed on her tombstone which, unfortunately, is no longer able to be seen. Your consideration would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mary Liber

Grace N. Floyd Lusby
Hi John,
I just thought you might like to know (if you don't already) that Grace Floyd Lusby's death in Los Angeles on 29 Dec 1918 has been digitalized on in an index. No details, but interesting that she died about 12 days after her brother Sherman and his daughter...

Cedar Hill
Hi! I noticed you have outstanding photo requests for Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland Maryland. I am preparing for a trip there Sept 8th and I'm planning on trying to fulfill as many of these as I can. Since this cemetery is so large (about 80,000 graves) it would help to have the section and plots of the burials. I have spoken to a lady at the cemetery named Carmelita Walker. She said she can't give the locations of these sites to me since they are not related to me but she said if you could give her a call at 301-568-5400 and tell her that you are a relative (or think you may be!) she can give it to you. She said there is no charge for her to look up this information. Once we have this information it will be sooo much easier to find the grave and photograph it. If you are no longer interested in fulfilling the request for whatever reason, just let me know too so I can cross it off my list. Thanks!

Isaac Hutchinson
Hi John,
I have a question about Isaac's parents, John Hutchinson and Sarah Johnson. I am a descendant of William Hutchinson who, I believe, is a brother of Isaac. I would like to discuss these two with you. Would you mind doing this by email? My email address is

Found: Pieces of monument for Margaret Hedgman (found in Maine)
A large piece of headstone has been found in Maine belonging to Margaret Hedgman. Died 1754 Wife of Peter Hedgman. Could you please contact me so I could talk to you about it. I have traced her burial to the Aquia Cemetery in Virginia.I have no idea how it ended up here on our small island.

Brewer, Susanna Brooke
Your message:
Are you related to this person in any way? You seem to have collected a lot of info on her and her many descendents, including obituaries, so it seems you've gone the extra mile to document this family. I ask because I am related, and wishing to talk to someone who is also related to compare notes.

The Getty family is connected to the Brewer family. The Brooke family is connected to the Davidson family. Are any of these surnames ones that you research?

Thomas Brooke - Mt. Olivet
There is marker located in the area where Thomas Brooke is supposed to be buried with the names John M. Brooke, Mazie M. Brooke, and Fannie G. Yerby. Like others have mentioned, no marker can be located for Thomas Brooke although there are a number of markers in this area illegible and/or covered with overgrowth.

William Hanley
I found a small obit or notice of death for William L. "Bill" Hanley - Burns, Oregon - died Sept. 1935.
Says he was a pioneer cattle king and buried on his Bell A Ranch.

I'll get back there when I can, but my boat is out of the water and I am preparing it to paint and they charge me by the day while it's out, and I still have to do my taxes right now

Bethel Methodist cemetery
I visited Bethel Methodist Cemetery but did not find the Floyds. If you can call trhe church at (804) 462-5790 and ask Pastor Bob Jones to find where the Floyds are (if they are there) I'd be willing to return. (They don't answer the phone every time, but they are there some of the time.)

John Clafer photo
Hi John, the issue is not that the photo needs a flash, but that the original clearer image I took is too big to post here. If you give me your email I will send it to you. I will add a transcription of what I am able to read to the site.

I am truly sorry but this is the first I have heard from you. What photo are you referring too? I do not recall having any photos of Giles Sisson, but would love to have one.

Sherman S. Floyd
My grandmother was a 1st cousin of Sherman, Grace and Will Floyd. I can give you a lot of info on the Floyd (Clark) family if you might be interested. You may not be related, but I'm really happy to find the memorials for Sherman and his family. Thanks!

Alcha Crandall Sisson
Everything I have on this branch of the family says Alcha...including (as you can see) her headstone. Is there some proof for the name Alchilla so I can feel secure about making the change?

RE: John and Mary Herron

I checked St. Joseph's for John and Mary Herron this morning. There are many stones that match your description, and the vast majority of them are buried or sunken so that the names cannot be read. I did, however, contact the pastor asking for the location of the grave. Stay tuned!
