RE: The Dead vs Living
Sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like she had your number. We will be at 48 yrs the 16th of August. Amazing how our generation took marriage for better or worse. Today it is for better or divorce.

RE: Rhoades Cemetery
Enough to drive a person crazy!!! LOL We looked for the Leslie cemetery, I have a survey for it, but it is gone. Thanks for all the info. Think I will get my mind (what is left) off cemeteries for awhile. I know more about the dead than I do the living.

Rhoades
Forgot to tell you that in Jackson Twp there used to be a RHOADES cemetery and there is a road named RHOADES Rd. Almost all the roads in Jackson Twp are named after the old settlers. The cemetery was on Rhoades rd. We have the same problem in our family between the GePhart and GeBhart families.

spelling of Rhoades
In my tree I used the Rhoades spelling. I think the inscriber of the stone made an error and actually the people probably did not spell it right. It saves confusion to use the same spelling. We know they were all the same family.

Amanda Roades
I just deleted my entry. I had her as RHOADES that was on the stone...thus the confusion

RE: Stuff
Sad story about little Dessie. I thought she probably had the flu that was bad then. I think Jacob is probably at Slifer. I have that death date also for Jacob Coller. Feb 2, 1829 in Franklin, Warren, Ohio. I called several cemeteries in that area. I checked on Ohiogravestones.org because I put a lot of pics there from Warren county but no Jacob.

RE: Hay and Pfoutz Cemeteries
Yes I have tried also and give up. Pfoutz is online now and if you look at the incorrect entries I have directed people to the proper cemetery. I have been in contact with several people that have ancestors there. I took photos also of Pfoutz.

The Leslie Cemetery
Roger, when I was last at the Leslie, it was in March of 2006. At that time, a Greg Garner owned the land. He and his family were tremendously nice. I guess that he sold the property per what you are saying as the new owners.

RE: Hay/Pfoust mess
Thanks. I have been trying to contact him for a month this last time. Maybe he is sick or changed his addy. Anyway..The Hay/Pfoutz is now fixed for those hunting their ancestors. The exact location of Pfoutz is known.

Rhoades
Roger, thanks for the message. I have run across a Jacob T. Rhoades, Philip Rhoades and a Philip Slifer, numerous times in the 20+ years of my research. I grew up on a farm between Germantown and Farmersville that was the Swihart and Shideler Farm from 1798 to 1855. On the farm just north of us was the original Jacob T. Rhoades farm. On some of the documents that I've seen over the years, it seems that when Philip Slifer got older, he lived on this farm, being cared for by Jacob and his wife. On our farm just south of his place, is a small graveyard, but it only held the remains of Swihart, Scheideler (Shideler), Custer, Ellis, and Krider. I know that before Jacob had the farm north of us, it was lived on (unsure if it was owned by) by a Samuel Howard. William Holmes owned the farm north of him, but I'm still not sure how that fits into the farm.
As I recall, the farm where Jacob T. Rhoades lived on, was owned by a Melvin and Jane Sears (since deceased) when I was a child, and it is now owned by Brumbaugh's. The house and barn are still there. It is a beautiful place next to Little Twin Creek.
I think that I've also read a story about Hiram Rhoades (in Darke County) that died on the hog-farm up there, or something to that extent, maybe it was a farming accident or something, I did read something about that.
Thank you for posting the Leslie Cemetery. I have surveyed that cemetery, too (back in 2006), and I believe that there were a few more burials made at this location. I'm thinking that maybe Esther (Swihart) Leslie, wife of Gabriel Leslie is buried there, some old timers have told me that Philip Rhoades is buried here, and also some more of the Kreider Children are buried here. The property owner is Mr. Garner is very nice and would likely allow me to use a probe to attempt to locate more stones. I just don't know if I'll have time to do that, though.
Hope that some of this information is helpful, but I'm sure you probably knew most of this. I might have a copy of Jacob's Last Will and Testament in a book somewhere, I'm sure that I've seen it in some of my documents.
Always,
Curtis
