Pamela Young
Jane E. Wowk
Good Morning,

I had a little trouble finding this memorial to Jane, however I did find her on the same memorial as Walter M. Wowk, (1923 - 2007), and you will find a picture there.

Eliza W. Snowden 1836-1909
Theodore M Snowden 1827-1896
Josephine W. Snowden 1866-1922

Eleanor G. Snowden 1877-1944
If you wish I will send the photos to you.

Yerks @ Reformed Church Hawthorne
I was by The Reformed Church Cemetery this afternoon, and added a few Yerks photos--they're kind of dark, as the day suddenly became cloudy.

I found two headstones for children of Abraham and Jane Yerks, but they're so worn that I can't make out much information. One is for a daughter (can't decipher name) who died in October? age 1? year 9 months. The year may be 1836. The second headstone seems to be for a son, John L---Yerks, who died August? 9 1831.

I can send the photos to you if you want to have a go at them. If you can figure out who they are, I'll add the photos to memorials when you set them up.

Under the Dogwoods
RE: Edith Russell Photo Request

I am always disappointed when no gravemarker is found. I take max effort to locate. In the section she rests in peace, many burials are unmarked. If you need an obit, I will include on my next run to the Miami Downtown Library. They have a good index system. Just let me know.

Under the Dogwoods
Edith Russell Photo Request

I went to the Woodlawn Park North Cemetery this morning and found Edith rests in peace at location Section 27 Grave 393A. I did not find a gravestone at the location. I will be attaching a no gravestone designation on her memorial. You may want to transfer the memorial to the correct cemetery which is Woodlawn Park North Cemetery on 8th Street in Miami.

All the best

RE: westchester almshouse
Hi Philip,

My Pierce whalen(parents Michael and Mary Cleary) was born about 1865 in Waterford Ireland. He came to the US in about 1888. He lived in Yonkers with his brother (Patrick J.Whalen) throughout most of the census years until 1930. He is no longer a household member in 1930. Then a Pierce Whalen shows up as in inmate of The mount pleasant Westchester Almshouse in 1930. Its highly probable he died there. I do not have a date of death and I live in Georiga so doing the leg work is also limited.

westchester almshouse
Hi Philip,

I have a few questions about the westchester almshouse. I have a family member who was there and I cant seem to locate where he was buried. If he was buried in the almshouse cemetery prior to the move where would I write for the DC? IF he was buried after the move, again where would I write for the DC?

Eastview Almshouse Cemetery
Hi Phil,
I've been looking for relatives of mine who I think may have been buried in the original Almshouse Cemetery in Eastview. No one in the town seems to have a listing of the individuals buried in this cemetery, as it was covered over in the 1930's when the Saw Mill River Pkway was built. I have contacted the Mt Pleasant Town Hall, the County Historical Society, and the County Archives, and none of them have any info on the Eastview Almshouse Cemetery. Have you had any luck trying to find the names of individuals who were interred there (pre-1920 graves)?

RE: Potters Field
Will send you an email--thanks. I didn't know there was a map out there of this cemetery!

Added by Pat on Mar 29, 2011 4:51 PM

RE: Potters Field
Does the map you have include names? There's a Find-A-Grave member who's looking for a relative, Frank Gierula, who might be buried there.

RE: Potters Field
I think it's supposed to be laid out by lettered rows, then numbered graves going across, but I could never quite figure out the pattern since the rows aren't really marked and it seemed to skip around. Very confusing. It was easier to look for markers by year (earliest years in the front, closest to parking lot; later years in the back by the powerhouse). Each marker has a small stamped metal plate on top which gives information on who is buried in that grave--there are often two or three people per grave.

I haven't been there recently, so don't know if it's been marked more clearly. Good luck!
