Graves in Rockledge Cemetery

There are three graves in the cemetery. Two are marked and one is unmarked. Mr. Baxley has books showing all burials by Wylie-Baxley and the previous owners of the funeral home. In volume one is the answer you are looking for. It took me a bit of digging in that volume to find the information but it is there. Please feel free to use my name if you want to get Stanley to open those volumes up to you. I am hoping he will donate those books to the County library some day. My number is 321-634-2629 if you want to chat further.

RE: Rockledge Burial Ground
Yes. My father is George Reed formerly of Wylie-Baxley Funeral Homes in Rockledge and Merritt Island. As a result I have been involved in the funeral industry part-time for most of my life. My Dad and I visited and cataloged the cemetery some 30 years ago. I have subsequently lost most of that material.

MRS may be inactive. I've had this contributor's name on my list of those who do NOT respond to edit requests.... for about a year now. I will plan to send a msg to the findagrave editors to handle my corrections.

Burnham Family Cemetery
Will you be posting a map of this cemetery and a sign?
I saw your post on the profile page of contributor MRS. I have not gotten any response from MRS on any edits for quite a while. You may wish to contact the findagrave editors about your map and about movement of memorials over to your new cemetery which is part of Canaveral.

RE: Jack Nichols
Robert thank you for your message about Jack Nichols. I would agree that he is probably NOT buried in that cemetery. I look forward to whatever info you may come across regarding him.

Joseph Hopkins
I just wanted to say thank you for looking for Joseph Hopkins marker in the Eau Gallie cemetery. I had claimed it but was unable to look because my son ended up in the hospital the next day. I felt bad that I was unable to fulfill this obligation, but was relieved when I found out today that you had searched for it. Sadly for the family it was not found, but I am thankful that you took the effort to find it.

RE: Maurice Goldsmith
Thank you. I spend a lot of time in front of the microfilm reader looking at old newspapers. I'm not sure I can help you much with Maurice Goldsmith. His name shows up on the WPA veteran grave registration list ( as being in the CSA, but there's no mention of a rank or company name. I suspect you're right about the Major title. Probably earned it after the war, although his obituary did say he was an officer in the Army. If I find anything else, I'll be sure to let you know. ~ Shawn

RE: Brevard Cemeteries
Thanks! I'm looking forward to trying some new territory. By the way, Williams Cemetery is now listed on Merritt Island (instead of in Cocoa).

RE: Brevard Cemeteries
You're welcome. I haven't been to the cemetery yet, but I'll have to go check it out one of these days. You're right, the location is listed wrong. I'll see if I can get Find A Grave admin to change it to Merritt Island.

RE: Brevard Cemeteries
The only one I know of along the Barge Canal and just north of 528 is Williams Cemetery. It's pretty old, so some might call it a pioneer cemetery.

RE: Brevard Cemeteries
Sorry, I'm not familiar with any cemeteries in Malabar. The only one in Rockledge I've been to is Florida Memorial Gardens and it's definitely not abandoned. Good luck.

RE: Brevard Cemeteries
I've been to several in southern Brevard and found at least a few that weren't previously on this site. I'll have to get back to you in a few weeks (when I return from Sturgis).

RE: Vesta Bays
Sure, no problem! Very nice resting place for souls, beautiful cemetery. I also got a picture of what I presume to be your uncle's tombstone - I know he is probably not biologically related, but if you want it, I have that as well. The name on the tombstone is Willard Arnold Bays. Just let me know, if you want it and I will be happy to send it on.
