Caroline Offer photo request, Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma, CA

I saw you posted a photo request back in August. You listed Section N, Lot 24, Div S23 as her grave location. Questions for you - how did you get this location? There is no grave number listed on what you have on there. I went on the cemetery website on the genealogy search and I don't see her listed at all, so I can't narrow down the grave#, which is essential. This cemetery is MASSIVE - over 1,000,000 burials!

I saw that you were wondering if she was buried with her husband, Herman Matthew Offer. HE is actually listed on the cemetery website in Section G, Row 4, Grave 518.

I hope I can help you, but we need to narrow down this info first.

Re: William Cowan - Lockhart City Cemetery
Hello again!! If I was able to give you all the
info you needed regarding Mr. Cowan's tombstone, could you please go into Find A Grave & cancel your request for photos of his tombstone? (I just didn't want someone else trying to fulfill your request if you got what you needed from me). Thanks!

RE: Re: William Cowan - Lockhart City Cem
you're welcome! After telling you that I didn't photograph any of the Cowans family referenced, I see now that I DID take the photos of the gravemarker of Alexander, Ellen & Eliza. I see on Alexander's memorial page that someone had scanned the first page (only) of his obituary. Perhaps you can contact that person & see if she has the rest of the obituary (which might name the relatives of Alexander) or she might know the relationships of the Cowans. Good Luck!

Re: William Cowan - Lockhart City Cem
Hello! I saw that you requested pictures of William Cowan's gravemarker and I thought that I would let you know that I have seen this
metal gravemarker many times. I have photographed a good part of this cemetery & know this particular tombstone well.

It, again, is a metal tombstone with 4 names on it. Each side has a different person's name and the year that they died. All four sides of this tombstone have been photographed (though not by me) and each side's photo has been attached to that person'a memorial page.

The names and dates are:

DIED MARCH 25, 1901

DIED SEPT 25, 1902

DIED MARCH 22, 1902

DIED MAY 19, 1874

If you go to the Lockhart City Cemetery's search feature and put in Cowan as a last name, you will pull up all the Cowans buried there and you will see the additional family members of Alexander, Eliza and Ellen, as well as William. Each memorial page, again, has a picture of the side of this metal gravemarker with their name on it.

The stones at the bottom (& near) this gravemarker just have the first names of these people. So there is an "ELIZA" footmarker, an "ELLEN" footmarker, etc.

I do not know the relations of any of these family members but I just thought you'd like to know that ALL SIDES of this tombstone have been photographed & I have personally seen the foot stones with just the first names of the buried.

Hope this helps you in your quest! I will let you
cancel your photo request if you choose to.

Hey Cowboy,

I was just looking at your message again and thought I would look to find who Mr. Richey was and look what I found.,285526701

Copy and paste that into your browser line and see what comes up. I also sent in a request to connect Bertha to Walter H. Richey.

Big Smile!

So help me out, who is Mr. Johnson?

Rose Hills

There's going to another trip pretty soon, after I get the pictures loaded that I took. I'll give Hazel/Bertha another drive by and see who is around her.

Six hours and I only got 43 of the 60 I went for.

Okay Cowboy,

Found a headstone in the approximate location ... BTW ... the memorial has lot 4620, directory shows 4720. I am hoping this is the right stone because you asked me to look for Bertha. Only took this one because it was in the general vicinity and only Johnson stone.

It appears to be the correct one, but just in case, let me know and I'll delete it if it's wrong.

I just wanted to let you know, I am planning a trip to walk the lawns at Rose Hills next week. I can't promise for sure (that's why I didn't claim your request), but if I do find Bertha Johnson, I'll take the picture.

Honoring those who have gone before

Thank you, I will do that. My husband, and thus my children are descendants of John and Hester Sage Cooper, so James and Lovis are the furthest back we have found on that side.
Thank you for your help!

No problem! I see you have a request for a cemetery in Luling--I may be taking a trip out there soon. If it is still available, I will pick that one up for you. It will probably be in the next couple of weeks. :)

James Sage, FAG Memorial #83192527
James is a direct line ancestor through his son, Charles Comer Sage. His widow, Lovice, said in a pension appl., I hace a copy, that James died 2-3 days after making his will on 14 Mar 1820. He is said to have entered in a notebook that he b. c 1749, "near London", & that his "dweling place" before coming to London, was "Shepton Mallet" This can't be proven, at present, because the descendant who is reported to have his "notebook" will not make it public & will not communicate. I have a dozen or so typed pages on James & some of his descendants. My email is:

Transfer done
Rick, I have transferred the "Mysa" Cantwell Memorial to your care. In order to check out this "Mysa" thing, I shall look up my photo record and go back to the cemetery. I'll work to see if I can get some better information off of the grave marker. You can see by the photo that it is pretty rough going, but I'll give it a good second effort. Some of these weathered stones I have to trace the letters with a finger, like reading Braille, and record the data one letter and number at a time. Even up close it is very difficult to read some weathered markers. Cheers, Lee.

My pleasure. The engraved name and dates are almost worn off. I tried to enhance the definition with a polarizing filter and reflected light with poor results. Sadie's birth date is recorded as May 21, 1843 on her AZ death certificate at
