RE: Leota Campbell
Thank you for the explanation. She was married to my mother-in-law's uncle, and they didn't know what the connection was.

Jennie Mellem = Jane Mellem = Gena Fryslie?
Jennie Mellem = Jane Mellem = Gena Fryslie?

For Jane I find just one reference:
--1880 Federal Census of Iowa, age 19 (puts birth abt 1861)
No Jennie or Gena.

For Jennie Mellem I find two references:
--1885 Iowa Census, age 28, a teacher (puts birth abt 1857)
Same family as 1880, but there's no Jane or Gena.
--1886 Jennie marries Henry A Fryslie (no age given)

Then in the 1900 and Census for Illinois I find Henry A Fryslie with wife Gena and two children. Gena is 39. (Gena born Iowa abt 1861).

And in 1910 Census for North Dakota I find Henry A Fryslie with Gena and same kids. Gena is 49. (Gena born Iowa bat 1861)

I never find any overlap of any combination of the three, so I'm assuming that, despite the differences given in birth years for Jennie and Jane and for Jennie and Gena, that all three are the same woman.

What do you think? Does this sound logical, or am I overlooking something? Your opinion appreciated!

Re Mellems in Worth Co., Iowa
Thanks for the many edits. I'm continuing to research this line. I see from Census that Gulbrand and Karine had 14 children. I THINK I might have found them all but am wondering whether Gilbert and Charles were the same son or two different people. Do you know?
The line-up I have thus far is Ole, Caroline, Jennie, Andrena/Angelina, Jane, Andrew, Lewis, Edward, Gilbert, Charles, Emily, Minnie, Gustav, Edwin. I suspect that there are errors here and would be grateful if you can help me get this right. :-)

John Theren
Hi Diane,
I have been communicating with Linda and William S re John and they have been suggesting that maybe he is somewhere else since there are Therens in Stockbridge, Kiel Cemetery (not Sts Peter and Paul), and Johnsburg. Check my messages. Are you sure he belongs at Sts Peter and Paul in Kiel?
Thanks for all your help.

Verna Serck Blotz - Larchwood Cemetery, Iowa

VERY synchronistic that I happen to be entering a whole bunch of stuff in my online family tree for the last few hours and about the same time you sent the links to her parents, I had JUST found out her parents' names! HA! Do you happened to be related to her? She is the wife of my grandma's brother. Absolutely LOVED her and I have all the letters she sent me as a child.
Anyhow, thank you for the edit!

RE: John Theren
Hi Diane,
Thanks for the credit. I'm still not 100% certain he is the right John Theren because I haven't found the marriage license nor the death records for John or the child and he doesn't seem to be buried where he is supposed to be (and I have no idea where the child is) but with that long caveat, I'm happy to take the transfer.
Thanks for all the help.

John Theren
Hi Diane,
I just wanted to let you know that I requested a photo of the headstone for John Theren, memorial #126771530. A volunteer searched the cemetery and did not find John nor any Therens at all. Could you just double check to see if you have the right cemetery? Maybe he just doesn't have a headstone even though he's buried there. Do you happen to have any obituary for John? Thanks so much.
