|cspindler||Finis E Harris, Jr information|
I'm writing on behalf of my wife, who is the granddaughter of Margaret Harned Harris. As I read the press release from the Putnam County Herald, Cookeville, TN: Thursday, 4 January 1945, reporting the death of 1st Lt Finis E Harris, Jr. The dates of his induction and deployment seem to be in error. I have not been able to locate the original source to see if this is an error in the paper or a transcription error. I would appreciate any clarification you might be able to give. Thanks!

Hi - yes sadly this stone is all but weathered away to nothing. It's difficult to make out more than the name. It appears there was once quite a bit engraved upon his stone. Unless the church has a record of it, it may be lost. Sorry.

I have just created a memorial for Louellen Harned, wife of George E. Harned, in Eastview Cemetery, Hardin County, KY. I made the silly assumption you would want it so I transferred it to you. If this was a bad assumption, please transfer it back. Best regards!

Thomas; I have Annie Harned listed in my Tree for Noah Bird. His Obituary states that he married her 2 Dec 1849 who died in 1851,no children were born to this marriage.No reference to the burial Site.
The Addison Cemetery has a good many unmarked graves and many stones that are not readable. These are in the old section and were not recorded in the WPA recording of the cemetery.

|Bob Collins||RE: Charles Harned|
You're welcome for the photo. I meant to put in an edit and canm't recall if I did. Green-Wood's records show Charles W. Harned's FIRST burial in section 13, lot 21021. Within a few months, however, he was removed to a holding vault, where he remained for 12 years. He was moved to section 206, lot 29966 in June of 1898, where Catherine joined him in 1922. His first grave is now thw resting place of Charles (died 1876) and Lydia Rich (died 1907--see their memorial pages). Is there any relationship that you know of?

Thanks Tom. Question: Do you have the right "Collins" Cemetery? There are two "Collins" Cemeteries, in that area. Edd Collins, and Babe Collins. If you think you might have the wrong one, repost your family members again.

Thank you so much for sending the correction. I see by your Harneds Of North America website that the death date for Robert Edmund Lee Harned (father of Sidney Cecil Harned) has yet to be discovered. I found him on the 1920 census in Wyoming married to 2nd wife Lillie. In 1930 she was widowed and living in Denver. If you ever discover what happened to Robert Edmund Lee Harned, or anything about the time he spent in Washington state around 1905, please drop me a line! Thanks again... Dave

|Quietly Resting||RE: J. W. Harned @ Pleasant Grove|
Not right off hand. I did a quick check on Ancestry and found a 1860 Census entry for a J.W. Harned (1834), wife Mary (1836), children JW (1857) & Sarah E (1858). My transcription includes a Sarah E (1855-1862) so it *could* be the same family. I put in a photo request for the stones -- maybe that will help... I'll try to search more tomorrow..

Hi Tom. The information on the Harneds came from notes from a relative -- it is possible that they are incorrect, although she is usually pretty accurate, but mistakes do happen. She did a survey of the cemetery back in the late 1970's and that's where the info for this person came from. I did check and she definitely wrote 1835, but she could have misread it or transposed the digits. If you find out differently, please let me know and I'll definitely correct it! Also, if you'd rather I transfer it, let me know - I'm always happy to transfer :-)

You are very welcome. The Harned name is quite plentiful in this area. The Harned Farm is located nearby. Today it is owned by the Village of Smithtown and is a town park. I take my grandson there to play when he visits. The old farm buildings are still standing and in use by the town for nature programs for children.
