RE: Holton
I would definitely loose interest in that heat. We are around 80 but rain clouds come in the afternoon and cools to 70. We are high here in the mountains of Utah. About 7000 feet above sea level. You must be close to being done. The far section I photoed, I could not read some of the headstones when I returned home. I can not tell you which ones I could not read. Have a great day, Jen

RE: Sarah Chase Williams, Holton Cem.
Thank you so much. I now know who 'Sarah' Williams, daughter of Richard Williams and Sarah 'Sadie' (Chase) Williams married. I appreciate your information very much. Now, if I could just verify the fact that her father, Richard A Williams is buried in this cemetery. I have a memorial for him (147651587) but didn't put it in the Holton Cemetery because I wasn't sure. (I can't wait for basketball season to start!!) Bev

No, I never lived in Iowa. I was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, and now live in Fallbrook, California. My parents were the ones who did the family history searching; I helped type stuff up for a family reunion in 1977 and now I keep the info up to date and add to it as I find sources, etc., online.

As far as Lester is concerned, I searched for him on after your previous post and what I gave you was what I found there.

If you knew Charles and Myrtle, you may have heard of Velma and Emil Freienmuth. Those were my parents, and Velma was a Shortridge. Her father and Myrtle's mother were brother and sister.

I found Thomas Lester Deaver in His family apparently moved to Washington state between 1930 and 1940 (I found his family in both censuses), and sometime later, he moved to California. He died in Mendocino, CA in 1983. Didn't see a burial place; just found this info right after I got your message.

I also am a KU fan; graduated there in 1960.

I wonder if I may have your permission to use your grave marker and/or cemetery photos on my family website. Check it out at This is how I'd be using the photos and obituaries I find on Find A Grave, with 'used with permission' in the caption.

Thank you.

I have asked the admins to merge these cemeteries. It usually takes 1-2 weeks. In case I forget, let me know if it does not get done.

Kathy said that Tom was inquiring about this cemetery as well. I think tying them together would be appropriate. Thanks for all you do too.

RE: Zedekiah Powers

The POWERS line is part of my uncle, Marcus Elroy White's, family tree. uncle Marc's mother, Edith Leona Powers White, was the sister of Clarence Edwin Powers. Their father was married twice. With his first wife, Elizabeth, he had five children, born between 1856 and 1865. He and Elizabeth were divorced before 1880. He married Edith & Clarence's mother, Inez Samantha Gifford, and they had ten children, born between 1881 and 1907. The 'Sport' you mentioned was born in 1874, which falls in the gap between these two families. I have found no documentation that would support there being another marriage (and family in this 15 year interim, however, that might be a possibility. The children I have documented for Zedekiah are as follows:
With 1st wife Elizabeth:

Isaac Franklin Powers
1856 1922

Emerson or Anderson Powers

Rosa Powers

Florence Powers

Sophia Powers

With 2nd wife, Inez:

Archie Irving Powers
1881 1963

Edith Leona Powers
1884 1980

Henry C. Powers
1886 1905

Maud Inez Powers

Robert Harley Powers

William Russell Powers
1895 1979

Zedekiah Cleveland Jr. Powers

Clarence Edwin Powers
1900 1966

Mary A. Powers

Ethel M Powers

Best wishes,
