George Wallinford Chadbourne
Hi Susan,

I'm writing you because I notice that all of Ichabod Rollins Chadbourne and Hannah (Lincoln) Chadbourne children are accounted for (tombstone/cemetery - wise) except for George Wallingford Chadbourne (born 2/19/1824; died 11/15/1871 in Perry, Washington County, Maine). I'm wondering if you are a Chadbourne relative and would be interested in finding his grave, as you live sort of near him. I assume he is buried somewhere in Perry, Washington County, Maine, but I don't know where. I would certainly understand if you don't want to take this "project" on, but I thought I'd ask. I live in Michigan, and have no plans to travel to Maine in the near future, so it is not possible for me to do this. I would certainly understand if you don't want to do this.

My notes indicate that his wife, Emma Porter (Cooper) Chadbourne, died in 1908 in Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas. I may be able to find something on her through a digitized newspaper service, like Newspaper Archives, the next time I go to a major library.

My notes also indicate that there is a tenth child that must have died young somewhere. I don't know where I got that information now - it's been at least 20 years, but I have an unnamed Chadbourne child in my notes. An it couldn't have come from the 1900 and 1910 census, since neither Ichabod nor Hannah was alive then. Just thought I'd mention this, in case you have any additional info on this mysterious child.

Well, I thought I'd ask. Thanks again for your contributions to Find-A-Grave.

Chadbournes in Hillside Cemetery
I will post the four additional Chadbournes in Hillside Cemetery that I mentioned to you in my earlier correspondence. I assume you never found their graves there, as you seem to have posted all of the Chadbournes that I was interested in in Eastport. But I believe they are there, per a cemetery transcription I looked at some 20 years ago. If you could, can you get a photo of the tombstones, if one exists? I could request a photo of each of the tombstones on Find A Grave, if you would prefer. I am just concerned that you DIDN'T post them - so are they really there?

More on Chadbournes in Hillside Cemetery
My notes also indicate that Major Josiah Dana, Dorothea Dolly (Milliken) Chadbourne's first husband is also buried there.

Just FYI. If you could check this out, it would be much appreciated. Again, my info is probably from a cemetery transcription at the Eastport library and is at least 20 years old.

I would post these four people but I a somewhat confused about what cemetery they are in, and I think you would have posted all of the Chadbourne's, if you could find them.

Chadbournes in Hillside Cemetery
Hello Susan,

Thank you for posting these graves. It has been a long time since I have been to Maine and/or researched these Chadbourne lines. My records said that they were all buried in Hillside East Cemetery, but because you have pictures, I assume that your info is better than mine and that they are buried in Hillside Cemetery, not Hillside East Cemetery.

However, my records also indicate that Ichabod Rollins Chadbourne, along with both his wives, Dorothea Dolly (Miliken) Chadbourne and Hannah (Lincoln) Chadbourne are buried in Hillside East Cemetery. Given your info, I assume I am incorrect and that they are buried in Hillside Cemetery with all the children. However, I am afraid to post these three "new" people to Find A Grave, since I presume you couldn't find them there when you visited and took pictures. I believe my info came from a cemetery transcription at the Eastport library, although it has been over 20 years and I really can't be sure now.

Do you live anywhere nearby to check either the library or cemetery? I would love these people to be entered on Find A Grave so that all their children could be linked to them.

Again, thank you for posting these graves.

I notice the g.s. shows her death date as 1935, not the 1933 as you have it listed. You may want to make a note of that on her memorial.

Tim & Grace
Devers in Milltown Cemetery

Hi Susan,

We went through Calais Cemetery yesterday on our way to Grand Manan Island. We got some information from the cemetery office where to look for family gravestones when we go back through on Sunday.

We didn't have time to stop at Milltown Roman Catholic Cemetery on the way to the ferry, but we hope to go there on the way back. It looks to be quite close to the new Customs Inspection Station.

Anthony Dever is buried there and also two of his sons. Can you steer me in the right direction about who to contact to find whereabouts in the cemetery their gravestones are located?

Thank you :)

Sincerely, Tim & Grace (Adams) Cooper

Darling Family
Many thanks, Susan, for your records on the Darling family in Calais Cemetery. The son of Samuel Darling and Jane Vance is buried in Nassau Bahamas, and I was so happy to be able to link Timothy Darling to his Maine family.

Mary Jackson Young
Hello Susan,
I was so pleased to find my many great grandmother, Mary Jackson Young, in Calais, Maine.
Do you have the source for her mother's surname, Clark? I have variously found the mother's name as Mary or Elizabeth so the Mary Elizabeth makes sense. I have been unable to find the surname.
Thank you for all you do.

Thomas Bibber
Thanks for posting the gravestone of Thomas Bibber. Believe he also had a daughter Harriet C Bibber (Maine State of Maine, "Maine, Births and Christenings, 1739-1900," index," database index, FamilySearch ( : accessed 1 August 2013), Harriet C Bibber.)
She was born March 1813 and died in Lubec Sept 1895. She married Benjamin Batson Shackford. I haven't seen their gravestones in Find A Grave yet but am pretty sure they were buried in Eastport. Am currently working on an article about her at
