|PurpleRosenb||RE: Simon Lakey, Sr 1828-1913|
I love sharing family history. As a matter of fact I am going to the Library in Independence MO to do more research. I was just in Ava MO this summer and visited with some cousins. Do you have a ancestry.com account? Please let me know what you would like to know and if I have the info I will be glad to share. You are the first cousin I have been in contact with from the Wheeler side. Simon Lakey/Sarah Love's daughter Sarah Lakey is my Great grandmother married to William Hartley.
My email is email@example.com

I was wondering if you are on ancestry? I am researching my family heritage and it looks like we have two family lines in common - Lakey and Wheeler.

Good Morning Pat! The Methodist Church has not heard of this site because it was so long ago. A friend who lives here in Lowndes County, Mississippi found the deed for Providence Methodist Episcopal Church, I located it on the county maps by meets and bounds description. It is on the land owned by Rev. Nathaniel Lawrence who settled here in the 1820's and is behind his once plantation home. Also, I have a narrative written by a family member in the 1940's who said his father told him to "bury me up yonder in the old Providence Graveyard". I still have more research work to do before I can be absolutely sure. There are over 100 graves in this cemetery but only about 20 stones. More work has to be done on this.

Hey Pat, I found where John Burcham Lakey is buried quiet by accident. He is buried in the Lakey cem, along with a Hartley. You know there is two Lakey cemeteries. The one where John is buried & one that has literally been destriyed. That really ticks me off when people do that.

Hello, we use a high res digital slr camera, sometimes with a large flash depends on the circumstances. they are scaled to meet findagraves size requirements and uploaded. We are different than many people, we record the entire cemetery by photographing it and reading it from the photos. If we have a reference such as written transcriptions or ones on find a grave many times they will fill in the blanks as long as part of the stone is readable. There were several there like this stone that were very hard to make out this one photographed very well. The only think we do is remove grass from a stone so it can be photographed, I don't like touching the stones at all and as with many of these older cemeteries time has damaged the stones as well as vandals.

I went and made a memorial to him, as the easiest way to let you see the picture, I now know the picture came to me through a cousin Gary Sanders. I George is more closely related to you, I will transfer the memorial to you, and you can even delete it and re do it if you want.

I was told that George was buried in the cemetery where you have his daughter Blanch, but I see you don't have a memorial to him there. Is he not buried there? Do you have a picture of him? I do, but don't know where I got it.

Thank you Pat, glad I could help add more info to her page..
Added by JHarrison on Dec 26, 2009 10:43 PM
No, I did not know them, but usually do some research on all whose graves I search for; the four Pegaus are all in the same row so if you want all and request the other three, it will be easier for me to post shots for each.
Do you have any idea what month Mary Levan Pegau died in 1963 as the "search" function is not returning any results for her, but I could probably find her obit by calling up dates around the time she died.

Talked to Kay, she said that the lady that is in charge of the Ava cemetery gets so much money a year from the city to replace the older headstones.
Maybe this is what has happened, I will find out Monday if possible.
