I am a blood relative of both Howards and Goodes.

I am trying desperately to find the parents of Ruth Octava Goode Howard and I am striking out. Any ideas?

RE: Charles Granderson Baker
I am excited to hear from you. Charles Granderson Baker was also my 3rd great-grandfather. Here's how I am connected: Charles had a son John William Baker who had a son Charles Anderson Baker who had a son (my grandfather) Dallas Glen Baker. My father Ralph Edward Baker is the only living child of Dallas and Audrey Lucille Powell Baker. We live in New Albany Ms.
As you know from your visit at Amaziah Cemetery, many of the tombstones are old and very hard to read, many are missing and there is not a tombstone for Charles G. Baker but from what I have gathered - I believe he is buried there. Most everyone buried there is related to us.
This is what I have learned: Charles was married to Nancy Caroline Boatner. Her father was John Wesley Boatner (4th GGF). He and another family (can't remember off the top of my head who it was but I will look it up as I seem to remember that their children married) traveled here from SC and settled at what is now know as Amaziah. He was a slave owner. He and his slaves built the first chruch there. He donated land: 3 acres for the Chruch and 3 acres for the cemetery.
I am not sure where to find the records for those graves but I will see if I can contact the current Pastor of Amaziah and maybe he can help.
I am not an expert by any means and if you know any different, please let me know. Also I am relating this off my memory as I don't have my records in front of me at this time.
Email me at and I can send you the document that I based this on.
I would love to see and participate in preserving the people buried there. I wish there was a way to mark those graves for the future generations.
I look forward to hearing from you. Do you live in this area? Which of Charles and Nancy's children are you connected? I geuss we are related?

Bradly Family
Hi there, I guess we are distant cousins. It looks like your great grandmother and my great grandfather (Marshall Columbus Bradley) were siblings. I have lost touch with most all of my mother's family form the Bessemer Alabama area. Nice to see your post. I do hope to visit Alabama soon.

William C. Gaskin
William was my 2nd great grandfather, also. My grandmother, Cora Alma Gaskin was his Granddaughter. She told me her father, Joseph William Thomas Gaskin was killed in a duel. I was young when she told me that, and I never asked her any details. Now I wish I had. Also, who was William's wife. Someone has said it is Sarah Ann Landers. I am almost 74 years old, and would like to get this information before it is too late. Thank you for any help you can give me.

RE: Chosen W Jarrett monument
No problem at all, I was just glad to help. It was a interesting day to say the least. Look at the clouds in the background. That storm chased behind me for 3 hours, lots of wind and lighting. It was great.
