RE: Sgt. Hardy Newton Jones, CSA
Hello Sam. I added a photo of Josephine's stone today. She is in the Isaac Thomas lot, 4 rows down from Hardy. Isaac is her father. You can see the Evans stones, where Hardy is buried, in the upper left of the photo of the 3 Thomas stones.

Hello Sam. Thanks for the tip. Josephine's grave is right in that area based on Smiths and Mathues graves already identified. I will go back to see if she still has a stone and take a pic.

Hi Sam, I don't know anything about who may or may not have been buried at Holmesburg. By the time the stones were transcribed in the late 1800's there were only 13 or so stones that they could make out and those are probably the ones left standing there. You could check those records to see if there were any other military members. The 7 stones I photographed last week were not military. There were dozens of stones in the cemetery that were not transcribed because of weathering.

No problem. I checked all of the known records for the burials there for his info and could not find it. Because of the fire in 1874 information is scant. I also have ancestors in Mt. Moriah. Have not gotten around to much investigation yet. Will get there soon :)

You're welcome. Actually it is not that bad. the surface of the stone is flat and the oval is incised down into the stone with the lettering raised. So water and debris settle into the lower part. That is why it is darkened. It is actually in quite good shape.

Thank you for the information. I've added it to the memorial and deleted the ref to Mr Harmon being a Confederate soldier.

Unmarked Grave?

Why is William H. Hidell's grave at Woodlands Cemetery unmarked? His daughter Marie's grave in the same cemetery just received a marker. Why not her father as well? Perhaps something can be done? Thanks for your response.

Alexander H. Truett grave photo request
findagrave sent a notification that you had fulfilled a request for a photo of his grave (marker).
There must be a glitch in things because his memorial page does not display a photo of his marker. ???

John Corn
Thanks, Sam, for the coordinates for Private John Corn. The next day after I was there, I thought why didn't I get out my GPS and record the Lat/Long? You must have read my mind. Hope to be there for the clean-up day in October. Sept. 24 isn't going to work for me.

Hi Sam,

Actually it's not as bad as you think, although it has been a awhile since I was there. I've been living in California for the last nine years. What you are seeing is that it is a huge flat stone, with the center cut out and raised lettering within it. I think the water sets in that space and then lichen and moss grow. So if you are directly above it, you will be able to read it much better. that was just an angled shot. Take a look at the pic I put of his wife and you will see what I am talking about.
