Boy in the box
Hello Sideshow, I wanted to introduce myself. I sponsored "The Boy in the Box" when I noticed he wasn't sponsored. However his memorial reads someone else is the sponsor. Not sure how that works. Did their sponsorships expire?

I enjoyed reading some of your more unusual memorials.

I'd like to see that photo of the school children. My mom and my Aunt Rose are the only 2 left of Tinsie's children. Mom said to contact my Aunt. Rose Pletcher in Hesperia, MI. Mom said she has old family pictures.

I've just sent an email to the registrar of the Sault Ste Marie Chippewa tribe. Hopefully I'll hear back from her soon with some information about how we can go about getting information.

RE: Rosie Belle Maggo Ostrom
Hi Jeremy,

I would love to find out more about her. My grandmother didn't talk to much about her because at the time there was such a stigma associated with being a Native American. I searched a few years ago but came up against a brick wall and was told that all the records were lost and nobody knew anything about her other than the fact that she was Native American. Perhaps we can solve this mystery. I'd like to try.

Yes, we are related. Hi cousin! lol I am Norma Jean Olsons daughter. Mom and I were talking this morning and I googled Rosie Belle and found this sight. My mom's information is a little different from yours but it is sketchy at best. We've had a hard time coming up with family information. I assure you that I am who I say I am. :)

Rosie Belle Maggo Ostrom
I am Rosie Belle Ostrom's great grandduaghter. My grandmother was Tinsie Sylvester Olson, Rosie Belle's oldest daughter. If you could contact me, I would really appreciate it. My email is jpwilson416@gmail.com. I would like to know where you got your information about my great grandmother. Some of it is wrong.

"Orange Socks"
I saw that you have her burial place listed as unknown. I have visited her before at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Georgetown, Texas. She is buried as "Unidentified Woman 1979". I searched the cemetery records here on Find A Grave and found her memorial # 8520673. I assure you this is the woman known as "Orange Socks". Maybe the two separate memorials can be combined so that people can not only see her grave but know the background story as to how she became listed as unknown.

Hopefully someday her identity will no longer be a mystery.

Thank you for your kind words. Today is the 6th anniversary of Karen's death (05-20-11) and, in her honor, I have FINALLY published a picture of her rather unique memorial plaque on her page. Please drop by and take a look.

Thank you,

Christopher C. Courter

RE: Hay
You're very welcome. If ever you want to try to get an American date of death try the Social Security Death Index, it is public data. There's a few on the net. The one I usually use is here. Not everyone is on it, but many are.
