No bother at all. The info came from Perry's obit in the Hartwell Sun. The obit lists siblings: Annie Blanche Cape; Lillian Tucker; Leila Standridge (or Standard?); and Harrison Reese. - Bobbie

Hi, Gwen.....Thanks for the info on Martha Dunn!! I don't suppose you've found a marriage record for her and ____ Rumsey? I don't understand why she would go back to her maiden name if she had been married, though.

She is supposedly the illegitimate daughter of Josephus (Joe) Jordan and _____ Carnes, according to this person. True???

Most of my photos and bios that I have placed on Find A Grave have already been copied and put on ancestry by people other than myself. Those ancestry members have never attributed my work to me or the Find A Grave website. You are the first person to ask my permission and for that, let me say, thank you! By all means, use any photos you need.

Sorry, after rechecking the cemetery marker, I see that the marriage date is not included on it.

Seneca Lewis "Luke" Byrum
My source for the name of Luke Byrum's wife was newspaper obituaries.

I have the obituaries for the following children of Luke & Ann, ranging from 1978 to 2011: Johnnie Samuel, Robert Howard, Clyde Louis, Eunice (Welborn) and Drucilla (Carson).

All (all!!) of these obituaries showed the deceased's parents as "Luke and Ann Baldwin Byrum."

My explanation for the discrepancies in the records is just a guess, but if the name was not pronounced distinctly when the marriage license was applied for, the clerk may have only caught the "ball" part and not the "win." I have found many such errors in the marriage records. I would say the engraving on the Byrum Cemetery marker was taken from the marriage records book since it gives the marriage date. I have no idea where Higginbotham came from!

If you find the answer to all this, let me know. For now, I'm going to stick with Baldwin. I find it hard to believe that five different obituaries, written over a period of 33 years, are all wrong. These children should have known their parents' names, don't you think?

Thank you for the information. I've made changes to the memorial.

I added this memorial, but am not her family. If she is your relative, I'd be glad to transfer management.
