McCune Cemetery, Sallie Swager grave
I have been to the McCune Cemetery and looked for a stone for Sallie Swager. I believe there is no stone. There is a stone for her husband Hugh Swager who died in 1900. Both sides of his grave there is fifteen feet both ways to the next graves. It seems she is buried there with no stone.

RE: Ezekiel Shipley
Hello Laura,

Ezical Shipley is the great grand uncle of Gaye Hill, my linage is from his brother James Wesley Shipley.

John Wesley and Sarah Brady Shipley
their son James Wesley and Georgie Kelsey Shipley
their son James Wesley and Lillian Sims Shipley
their daughter Eugenia Shipley and Rush Johnson
to me - Gaye Johnson Hill.

I am not in the 4-generations for a transfer, but it would be nice, if you would like.

Thank you for the edits.

Roy White
Hi Laura,
I also noticed a headstone for a Roy White at Oakland. Woodson, Margaret, and Roy are all in line together on the same plot with the same size and style markers. Would you like his picture as well?

TLH
William Ellis photo request
If you can call Sparkman Hillcrest (214 363 5401) and get the burial location for William, I will fill your photo request. The office is very particular about volunteers asking for burial locations.
Once you get the location, please let me know what the location is. I will send a request to have the plot location added to the memorial.
thanks!

RE: Holt Family

Hi.

Above is a link to a blog I created about the Holt/Carson family. Laurilla Record Bernard Groom was an older sister of my great great grandmother, Lovina Jane Record Carson. I have an entry on the above blog devoted to Laurilla. I haven't done any work on this blog in quite awhile. So, do you think "Bernard" and "Barnhart" could be the same surname? I have seen several different spellings for the surname of Laurilla's first husband.

Donald Travis Holt
4th Great Grandfather
Hi Laura,

My name is Donald Travis Holt and Henry is my 4th Great Grandfather, so I guess that makes us cousins. I have been tracing my family history and found that my 7th Great Grandfather married a Bailey. You could be related that way also.

Talk more later, your cuz,

Travis

You're welcome. I am sorry I couldn't accomplish it. I checked both the library and the kiosk at the cemetary and they said the exactly the same thing. So if you don't have any more information, I guess we are done. Thanks

RE: Dester
Hello Laura,
I did make a quick stop at the Dexter cemetery this weekend and found Virginia Asbury's stone to photograph the child who is on the north side of her stone. The childs name is Eva Eta McDowell born March 24, 1873 and died Sept 24, 1875. Eva is listed on my Dexter transcription but no biographical info was added. I looked her up on Rootsweb and she was listed several times as child of Patrick McDowell and Mary Ann Reser. I photographed her stone and added her to Findagrave. My photo was not very good quality. Very dark. I have a hard time taking good photo's of North faced Inscriptions.

Take care
Judy

RE: Dexter Cemetery
Hi Laura,
I have a 1972 Dexter transcription that I had copied at the Cherokee Strip Museum in Arkanasas City and William Thomas Barnhart and Rachel Barnhart are not listed in my transcription. I am pretty sure Dexter has been completly photographed but there are so many old stones out there that are unreadable. What I would suggest you do is call a local funeral home in Arkansas City, KS. They should have on file the current name and phone number for the caretaker for Dexter cemetery.

Dexter is so small I do not believe that they have a funeral home in town. I'd try Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, Arkansas City, KS 100 East Kansas Avenue Arkansas City, KS 67005
(620) 442-3210.

I might be driving near Dexter this weekend. If I have time I'll stop and see who is on stone with Virginia Asbury. I think she is on this stone by herself.

I am sorry I'm not much help. I wish you luck on your search.

Take care
Judy

I was inquiring if this is the girl I knew from the Good Shepherd Convent orphanage. I was in the convent with her in 1959 - 62...I amnot tooo sure of the exact date. She was light haired and was so
sweet, very out spoken and she was very ill at the time I knew her. I think it was kidney or liver problems? Not sure, she was afraid to tell the nuns and hid it from them for quite awhile. She woule lay on the library floor to sleep. She was always very tired.
I just loved her, she always was joking and we all kept getting into trouble because she had us girls laughing all the time.
My name is Margie Trujillo..It is now Marni Dickinson. My email is purplecloud191702@yahoo.com

RE: Thank you
No we are not related to the McCalister's. My husband's family did spell their name with two L's when they first came over from Ireland. Of course, we would still be in the same clan! My husband's family is descended from the Demint family through Jarrett's son, Elijah Demint.
We found the old cemetery a few years ago just by chance in the late fall. I photographed all of the tombstones that we could find that were readable so when I saw your request I pulled the photos out and scanned them and posted all that I could. Glad to help out.

RE: Mary Ellen Askins-South Prairie Cemetery
Hello Laura,
South Prairie Cemetery/ AKA/ Gospel Ridge Cemetery is about 20 miles straight east of Winfield, KS on Hwy 160. I assume since you added some pics for your relatives at Dexter you are somewhat familiar of this area. Instead of turning south to Dexter off of Hwy 160 onto K15 you continue going east on 162nd Road (county rd 28) about 6 miles till you get to 291st Road (Cowley 7) and you turn left at 291st road and go north about 1 mile the cemetery will be on the East side of the road. If you look on Google Maps this cemetery will be listed as Gospel Ridge.
I might be in the Winfield area this weekend passing thru to visit my folks in Arkansas City so I'll make a quick stop at the library to see if Mary Askins is listed in the Cowley County Death index and possibly see if I can find an obit for her. I'll let you know if I find anything.
Take Care
Judy

RE: Mary Ellen Askins-South Prairie Cemetery
Hello Laura,
I believe I got her name from this online listing: http://skyways.lib.ks.us/genweb/cowley/cemetery/south-praire/south-prairie.html

I had added the names from this list prior to taking the photo's. I evidently did not see a stone for her while I was out there. There were some old stones that were unreadable so I may have overlooked her. I just went back and looked over my photos again and did not see one for her. Sorry I was not much help.
