updates
I have sent some automatic updates and they have not yet been completed. It is a relatively new way to update and perhaps you are unfamiliar with it. The tab is on your profile page in the upper right hand corner. It reads "Edits."

Thank you in advance,

Sheryl

Vandervort at Rawls
Hi,
I saw you inquire about the Vandervort family at Rawls. I am working on the cemetery and looked at the stone for Lydia and notice Barnet T or is it Barnett? is on the flip side of the obelisk. I took a picture and put it on Find A Grave. Hope this helps.

Could you tell me the connection as to why they are buried in Rawls Cemetery? If this is your relative I will transfer, so you can add some Bio information.

Susan

RE: I think I found my cousin
Hi Natalie!

Yes, this is the same Sarah Maria Henry. I've been helping to update SG records and she and her family are one of my projects. Oddly enough, she is a VERY distant relation of mine. Are you local? Spring Grove is huge, and it takes a little education to find things. Sec. 39 is one of my favorites and I'm trying to get it completely photographed and everything posted to findagrave. Unfortunately, Sarah does not have a marker. If you go in the main gate, go to the office (to the right) and get a map. Sec. 39 is on the green line road, so if you follow it, it takes you directly there. As you approach Sec. 39 on the green line road, you will turn to the right. Stop and park. Right where the road comes up to that section is about where Lot 37 is. There is a Coddington monument (we're having some confusion about Stephen's listing right now), and the Ross / Jenifer Monument and markers are to the left on Lot 36.

If you are not local, and need a "tour guide" for Spring Grove, let me know. I'm happy to have an excuse to get down there!

Good luck and I'll get that memorial updated today for you!

Hi Natalie,

He is not in any of the records I have for Rawls Cemetery but I will check some other sources and see what I can come up with.

RE: Pleasant Thomasson
I am not seeing Pleasant Thomasson in Andrew Chapel, just the ones I have added. There are a few unmarked graves there, I believe. This cemetery is in Williamsburg District and as far as I know, all graves have been added to Find A Grave. If I find out anything about this, I will let you know.

RE: Maple Grove Cemetery
Hey Natalie, I am not sure on this cemetery if it is fully transcribed or not, I had entered several names and photos that were close to relatives of mine and ones that were reguested at that time. Hillsdale has a great research center but is only during the summmer months. THey have great resources including alot of obits and information on burials. I will try to get there next summer and see what I can find out for you, send me a reminder then please so I dont forget. We have alot of snow so there isnt much I can do at the cemetery right now. Happy New Year..

Ethel Bruder again
I came across Ethel's grave again quite by chance the other day. She didn't seem to be buried very near anybody else, but I did take note of two names in the vicinity: Dorothy & Pauline. Now I'm looking at her memorial, I realize they were probably her daughters. I didn't take photos at the time because So I will go back again another day and take the other pics - I took a good note where she was this time. Did you ever find out anything more?

Linda L. Cottrell Liss
Roane Co., WV Cottrell Cem.
Thanks for the inquiry, Natalie. My husband & I cleaned and restored the little Cottrell Cem. on Speed Rd. Roane Co., WV. It was over-grown & used as a trash dump. My husband cut small trees and helped clean up years of debris & trash. The EPA removed drums of unknown waste, etc & posted "no dumping" signs. I reassembled the tombstones, one by one, & my husband helped reset them. It was a labor of love. The cemetery still needs annual maintenance, but is in much better condition than it was....

Note she is listed as a male! Also the 1876 date seems more realistic as other siblings were born on or near the 1879 mark.

Ethel
A few corrections - I meant that she appears as Bertha V. Peck on her marriage license, where Edward appears as Edwin. Other than that, it's Ethel V. Also I realized that Lillian had to be her daughter as on the 1930 she listed her mother as being born in VA and her father in MD, and Frank was born in PA. Also, Edward obviously died after the 1910 census. And the whole family was in Arlington in 1910, not just Lillian. I notice that her daughter Pauling married a Kenneth Sontag, who is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. Anyway, lots of info for you to go on now. I love a good puzzle! Would you like me to transfer her to you?

Ethel Bruder - again!
Ok, I have potential sightings of Ethel in various records. It may not be the same person, but I'm somewhat confident. The dates all seem to match. I think she first married in 1895 in DC an Edward Meem born in Maryland, who died about 1907. (His father, George Washington Meem, has a memorial on findagrave.) They had 5 children, the oldest of whom was Lillian. Lillian was living in Arlington in 1910. Here's the iffy bit: Edward Meem's wife is always listed as Bertha V. Peck. What do you think? It's all just a little too coincidental, since the married Bertha/Ethel was living at one point in Gaithersburg, Md, where her parents were also living. Let me know!

Ethel Bruder
I usually take photos of all markers clustered together and see if I can link them. The fact that I didn't make any links or note any markers nearby suggests that there was nobody else around. But I could be wrong. The office would know if she was buried near relatives - sometimes there is no marker. I did do some searching for more info for her and found her husband, Frank Lewis Bruder, and linked to him. Haven't found out anything about her daughter yet...

I'm afraid I don't know any more about her but you can call Columbia Gardens Cemetery and ask them about her - they will have all the info. The people in the office are always very nice and happy to help.

I got the death date from the De Kalb County Library in Auburn Indiana. The date is in their cemetery book of the county. Lynn Kraiser of the library got me the copy of Wartenbe Cemetery and I put all that is listed on the cemetery read list.
I will again contact the library on this and see if they can get the correct dates for us. So at the moment will leave what I put in. I am not related to any one in the cemetery just was trying to help others!
