Huldah Payne Gates
re: your note states she was the mother of (seven) children. Huldah was my great-aunt and, in fact, she was the mother of seventeen children. Would you like the complete list...?

Noticed you have listed some of their children. There are others in the cemetery and they had seventeen in total. Are you interested in linking this family further? Thanks - Dianne

Zoroaster Flanders
Carolyn, Zoroaster Semirarius Flanders married
Charlotte Brown abt.1838. He was born June 11, 1814 in New Hampshire and died 1896 and is buried in Vicksburg, Michigan cemetery. His wife died abt 1854 and possibly buried in Mendon, Michigan. They are my great-great-grandparents. I have more info on the Flanders family. My mother's maiden name was
Flanders, daughter of Zoe Frank Flanders. Are you a direct descendant of the Flanders line?

LAWRENCE, Jr., GREGORY E.: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice

San Diego Union-Tribune, The (CA) - February 26, 2009

Deceased Name: LAWRENCE, Jr., GREGORY E.

We are saddened to announce the death of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Gregory E. Lawrence Jr., of Solana Beach, on January 29, 2009, who was age 80. Greg was the son of Gregory and Grace Lawrence, Sr. and grew up in South Pasadena, California. He attended Occidental College, in Los Angeles, under the Hollaway (V-5) Flying Midshipman Program from 1946 to 1948 where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. In 1948, the Navy sent him to Pensacola, Florida, for flight training as a Naval Aviator Midshipman, receiving his "wings" in April 1950. This launched a Naval career that spanned more than 30 years. While at Occidental College, Greg made the acquaintance of a fraternal brother's younger sister, Phyllis Overholt. Greg and Phyllis were married in 1954 and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary last August. During his Naval career, Greg served in the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He was also on the Staff at COMNAVAIR Pacific in the early 1970's. His military awards include the Legion of Merit with gold star, the Air Medal with gold star, and Meritorious Service Medal. He retired from the Navy in 1973 with the rank of Captain. While in the Navy, Greg completed his bachelor's degree in science at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California, in 1963, and earned a Masters degree in Computer Science from American University in 1969. After retiring from the Navy, Greg earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence from Western State College of Law (now Thomas Jefferson School of Law), and became an Enrolled Tax Agent. He founded Lawrence Tax Service, and was proud to have his son Miles and daughter Martha work with him in his successful tax practice. Greg enjoyed golf and was a longtime member of the Loma Santa Fe Golf Club. He also looked forward to regular reunions with members of the Flying Midshipman. Most of all, however, Greg was a devoted family man. He took enormous pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, and always supported their endeavors with good advice and unwavering faith in their abilities. Greg is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis, formerly of Solana Beach and now of La Costa Glen, California, his children, Greg III and wife Carolyn of Jamul, California, Miles and wife Kim of Carlsbad, Martha and husband Brian McCleery of Denver, Colorado, and Theme and husband Smith Oosamron, of Thailand. Other survivors include his brother Jack and his wife Mary of Santa Rosa, California, and Greg's two grandchildren, Amanda and Greg IV, both of Jamul. We will miss him, but never forget him, for the lessons he taught us are in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, Phyllis asks that you make a donation in Greg's memory to your favorite charity, or to Silverado Hospice, 3750 Convoy Street, Suite 200, San Diego, CA 92111.

RE: Mary Annettie Lawrence
Carolyn, well thank you for leaving Mary A a token. There are not any family connections in Iowa that I know of yet, but Mary's dad and siblings were in Rice Co., Kansas from the early 1870's until early 1900's. I don't know how far that is from where your Lawrence's were in Kansas. I have also looked through my family files and so far have not come across a Walter Lawrence.

You sister in law has a wonderful name!!! : )

Good luck to you also!.

thank you for recently leaving a memorial on Mary Annettie Lawrence's page. I was wondering if you happen to be related to this line of Lawrences? I have been working on this line for several years and have not been able to find some descendants. Thank you again.

Sincerely,
Kim

RE: Lula Sage
Carolyn: Thank you for your help. I'll combine the data and photos for Lula into one record. My cousin (lives in in Beloit) and I appear to have connections to a good portion of the folks buried at Newark. Mgmt. of the records makes revisions easier. Thanks again for adding the original data & photos!

Record Management Transfer
Good morning. I am a direct Cadman descendent and mgmt. of the majority of Cadway-related records at Newark Cemetery has recently been transferred to me from other contributors.

I have been unable to receive a reply via your email account. Would it be possible for you to transfer the records of the individuals below? I will then be able to revise the records w/ relationship & documented data. Also, the records for Lula Sage should be combined to eliminate duplication.

Fred "Freddie" Sage: record #51050524
George S. Sage: #51050593
John W. Sage: #51050313
Julia A. (Leonard) Henry: #51050237
Albert Gallatin Henry: #51050216
Lula Sage: Please delete the duplicate (#51050400) and upload your photos to #53542614.

Thank you. I will furnish my contributor # upon reply.

Alvena H. Mead
Working on updating Newark cemetery on Findagrave and the family has sent me the birthdate. Wonder if you could update her memorial.
The dates are Jan 25, 1852 to Sept 10, 1852.
Once that is fixed her relative will delete the other memorial that is listed with Mead as maiden name.
Thanks for your help.

RE: re; Martin Overholt (aka.Oberholtzer)
Hi Carolyn -

I've only started with the Olberholtzer line recently. My sources are freely available at GOOGLE BOOKS. I post them below but I assume that you are already aware of them. Please feel free to contact me at the e-mail address on my profile page. I will do the same if I have any outstanding questions once I am a little further along.

Rev. A.J. Fretz, A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of Martin Oberholtzer: Together with Historical and Biographical Sketches and Illustrated with Portraits and Other Illustrations. (Milton, N.J.: The Press of Evergreen News, 1903).

The same book contains the work below:
Rev. A.J. Fretz, "A Genealogical Record of the Descendants of William Nash of Bucks Co, PA: Together with Historical and Biographical Sketches and Illustrated with Portraits and Other Illustrations." (Butler, N.J: Press of Penquannock Valley Argus, 1903).

re; Martin Overholt (aka.Oberholtzer)
You left a rememberance on the page for Martin Overholt (Find A Grave Memorial# 11236440) which states:
"The date of death in the bio doesn't match the date of death on the gravestone. Could there have been more than one Martin Overholt/Oberholtzer?"

The answer is that there are several Martin Oberholtzer (aka Overholt, Overholtzer, etc) from both this branch of the Oberholtzer family, and other branches too. There are at least two separate branches of the family buried at this cemetery. Martin Oberholtzer of 1709 is considered the father of one of those branches in America.
In the memorial that you posted this to, it currently lists the bio for both Martin of 1709 and his son Martin of 1743. I am attempting to get Martin Jr's bio moved to the proper memorial at that cemetery.

My relative, Martin Overholt (Oberholtzer in the old country) of 1745 is also buried at Deep Run.

I hope this answers your question.

RE: Zoroaster Flanders
I have one like that as well...a very unusal first name (that they probably didn't like or went by a nickname) whom I have had no luck finding. I checked on the Seeking Michigan website for Zoroaster's actual death certificate, but unfortunately they are posted beginning in 1897 - 1920 so his isn't there.
The Archives are wonderful, especially if you have any Civil War soldiers. It's an awesome experience, hope you make it there someday. I'll keep you in mind for the San Diego area!

RE: THANK YOU!
Your welcom. Zoroaster was not listed as buried in that particular cemetery so I had them give me a list of all the Flanders buried there. It turns out he is recorded as L.I. Flanders in their records FYI. Since I was having to check them all out, I went ahead and took photos of all of them and just finished getting them posted - in case you're interested in any of the others! Happy hunting. Shirley
