Hi, Brenda. I think a possibility for where your Major John Pitchlynn is buried, would be in Harris Mill Cemetery in McCurtain County, Oklahoma.

You had a great write-up. Thanks.

James Rubert Alexander memorial# 14391787 was my uncle Ben's son (my mom's brother). I understand the his son Rubert lives in east Texas somewhere. I see I need to work on my tree somemore. Sometimes you just don't put two and two together. The Alexander's are having a family reunion the last Saturday in October in Texarkana. I will see what I can find out about James and Dorothy's son. I've been wanting to talk to James Rubert's son Rubert just haven't had the time to. My e-mail adress is

Hi Brenda,
I have been looking at my Alexander's and I don't think they are the same. I do have a Dorothy Fay Alexander b.1942 d.1982. She would have been my Mom 1st cousin twice removed. My mother was the same generation as your grandmother. Her name, Myrtle Opal Alexander. Memorial #56957825. Here is a link to my family tree if you wish to look at it. It is on Tribal Pages. I can't go any further back on the Alexander than James Milton Alexander, memorial #92981119, that where we hit a brickwall.

RE: Fountain Oliphant
Brenda, if you click on the "detail" photo of Fount's stone, it will enlarge to a much larger view and you should be able to read it well. The dates are: Birth: 08 Feb 1842 Death:30 Sep 1927

His first wife was Julia...

In the 1880 Fannin County Census his name is recorded as: Oleph Fountain!

333 335 Fountain, Oleph B M 37 M Farmer TX () VA
Fountain, Julia B F 3 Wife M Keeping house TX () ()
Fountain, Charly B M 17 Son S Farm Laborer TX TX TX
Fountain, Nancy B F 15 Dau S At Home TX TX TX (CAN Read and Write)
Fountain, John B M. 14 Son S Farm Laborer TX TX TX
Fountain, Richard B M 13 Son Farm Laborer S TX TX TX
Fountain, Mary B F 11 Dau S At Home TX TX TX
Fountain, Amelia B F 6 S Dau TX TX TX
Fountain, Angie B F 3 [?] S TX TX TX

Patsy Espey was his second wife. The original name for Union Cemetery was Siloam....That name is the name recorded on Patsy's death certificate so you can change her FindaGrave memorial # 95682899 to show she is buried in the same cemetery with Fount.

There is a good bit on the Oliphants on
but sometimes its hard to find links on his site...I found most of them by searching with Google for "Fountain Oliphant" (in quotes)

Would you want me to transfer this memorial to you?

Added by sue on Aug 08, 2012 8:16 PM

In the center of the picture of the stone isn't a photo, but I can't tell what it is. My husband and I take pictures and we usually get a close up of any photos on stones. The only time I don't post the stone is if one the persons is still alive. Would you want a transfer? Most of my photos aren't kin to me and this one isn't. I just like to record small country cemeteries.

RE: Eliza Pitchlynn
Hey! Thanks for the info. I actually descend from Eliza's daughter Kizzia Pricilla Harris. So, this makes us VERY distant cousins?

I am a descendant of her daughter Eliza Ann Cornelia Pitchlynn who was married to William Riley Harris. I appreciate your time.

Sophia Folsom Pitchlynn
Hello! I came across the photo of Sophia Folsom Pitchlynn that you posted. I am a descendant and was wondering if you had any additional information about it. I have never seen this photo anywhere else online or any other photo of her besides the drawing/painting of her. Can you share where you got it and if you know what year it was taken? Thanks for any info! I'm new to all this.

I saw your post on Facebook about Emilie Barry's TX Death Certificate. Theresa Minor is my cousin! We have bounced thoughts and our family history back and forth on each other for years now. She's great!

Continued success to you in your research!
