Kenneth Johnson
John Wesley Sowells
Good afternoon Mr. Hightower. My name is Kenneth T Johnson. Thanks for posting this information. My grandmother is Inell Sowells Davis, daughter of John Wesley Sowells and sister to Asilee Hightower, Alice Hightower, Willie Lee Sowells(used to pick me up by the head as a kid, lol)and Marvin Sowells. My mother is Jewel Davis Johnson, and I have a identical twin brother, Keith T Johnson.

My grandmother passed in Feburary. Many of our Hightower cousins attended the funeral service. Additionally, I got the chance to meet a Lawrence Sowells (..whom stated his father was my grandmothers' uncle) which prompted me to further research the Sowells Family.
I am amazed to find soo much information regarding the Sowells's. God bless you and Kudos to you and the other contributors.

Kind Regards
Kenneth T Johnson

RE: Black Cemeteries in Walker County
Hi Ronald ... So happy to hear from you and know that you have ties to Walker County, TX. The cemetery books have been a wonderful project and I was privleged to work on the latest, the updated City Cemtery book, especially the section that included the prison cemeteries and history. I guess you know that three cemetery books are online on our Society website www.wcgen.com. Unfortunately, I did not know Ruth Stubblefield personally but she was well respected and she did a tremendous job with a tough project. I guess you know that James Patton has retired. It's doubtful anybody will be able to fill his shoes. He was one in a million. Thanks again for the contact.

Hi Ron, looks like Dorothy Spencer should be Dorothy Spivey b. Nov. 1, 1926 d. May 28,1944. We found the top part of the stone and cleaned it up so it's quite readable. The project is ongoing and headway is being made. Many of the stones are below the surface and we've had to dig our way to get the information and then return the dirt so futher damage doesn't occur.

Black Cemeteries in Walker County
Hi Ronald, I read with interest your bio. I guess you know that there is also a Black Cemetery Book that Mrs. Stubblefield wrote and placed in our library in Huntsville. It may also be online at our genealogical society website wcgen.com.
