Hi, Bobby,
No, I'm sorry I don't have any info about James Carroll in Arkansas. I picked his name at random during a stroll through the non-famous graves.

You might want to check with the woman who created the site for James Carroll, a woman named Rose. Her full name is near the bottom on the left hand side of the page. She may have some info since she was the person who listed James.

Good Luck on finding info!

OK. That's done. Let me know if their are any more. I forget about those important little details at time. Thanks. Marie

Name Age
Hiram J Swinney 61
Amanda E Swinney 55
Harmon Swinney 14
Lucile M Swinney 24
Irava Swinney 17

1930 Census Haskell census does not list a Dorothy in their household. Dorothy was born in 1922 so she would be CA 8 years old. Amanda would have been 48 years old when Dorothy was born. She was a Marley and married a Swinney. Maiden name of Marley would most likely not have been put on the marker. I really can not explain why she is buried next to Amanda. Their markers are alike and I can not explain this. Interesting, ugh?

I made the connections and added the additions and thank you for sending them. I must admit Dorothy has me puzzled because the information I have does not agree with what you have if it is the same person. Review it and let me know if I need to do something different with her memorial.

If you have a contact phone number for the person in charge of the cemetery book maybe thay can be of some help also. I would be happy to meet them there and they can show me where the graves are and confirm or deny that they are unmarked. I see so many signs of history being lost and it breaks my heart that some one isn't stepping up to the plate! In my opinion we will see less of what we are seeing now because so many people are being cremated and sometimes no memorial is erected.

That was my assumption, unmarked, but I hate to say that. There was a lot of space between D. G. Harrison's head stone and the next one on that row that could account for unmarked graves? It was a pleasure to drive out and look for the markers but a disappointment that I didn't find them

You are welcome. Besides it had to be done. He was a Marine and that made it a little special to me. Being a retired Marine - I make it a point to grab any and all Marine stones I see when walking cemeteries for others. Semper Fi

Hey Bobby, Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back on the Welch line yet. I'm so backed up on family lines now & I've been traveling a bit too...just got back from being trapped in the blizzard in Ohio. I'm sure I will get back on it in the next couple of weeks.

Hey Bobby, Just wanted ya to know I haven't forgotten about ya & the Welch info, I'm going thru it along with several other families.

The Dempsey Perry Welch (1798-1864) I was referring to was brother of Jenkins Hansford Welch...Dempsey stayed in Copiah Co., MS & was master of Welch Plantation. I have seen he & Elizabeth Young had 6 children - Dempsey, Francis, William, George, James & Amanda. I had wondered if my James W. may have been a son of his, but now it looks like my James W. is indeed the son of Jenkins.

Who was Agra Welch? Was she daughter of Jenkins? I have as his children - James, Dempsey, Lawrence, Hulda, Permelia, Penelope, Jemima & Benjamin.

Thanks again for all your help! Ithis line was a mystery to me for so long. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along. :)

Bobby, Ive been reading the pdf you sent & found the suppliment pdf online. You are right, it is a wealth of info. I just have to place my James as a son of Jenkins Hansford or Dempsy Perry. You said J.H. had a son James, and I can only find one son for D.P. Do you know all of their children?

RE: Welch Family in Union Co, Arkansas
Bobby, Ive been pouring over the records the last couple of day, here's a little cojecture on my part:

I believe the majority of Welches in Union Co. to be either brothers or cousins. The exceptions are John G. b. AL & Wm. P. & son Turner Goodall from KY, who are possibly distant cousins from the Virginia family. I havent gone that far back yet but several of the older ones were born there so I assume we came from VA.

Going on the assumption that my John is the 5 yo in 1860 & his father is James, mother possibly Sarah G., brother Hansford. Im not sure the James M. who is the Conf Vet is the same man. I think the vet is the son of John G. I could be wrong.

'My' James is not in Union Co. 1850, prob. still in MS or LA. Some of the family stayed in parts of northern LA.

Since James named a son Hansford, would that make James a son or grandson of Jenkins Hansford Welch?

I cant find James' son Hansford aft 1860 so I assume he died.

I dont think the Sarah T. b. VA in 1870 is the wife of James or mother of John. I need to determine who her husband was. If you notice James is above her in the census, with her children below her, indicating he was a cousin or nephew, not her son.

I will continue to try & unravel everyone. I need to find out who all were Jenkins Hansford's kids. Who was the older Penelope?

I have all the Union Co records I could find online, marriage, military, death & burial & census, with a few notes on Columbia Co & Union & Claiborne Parishes, LA.

Are you g-g-grandson of Jenkins Hansford who was son of Dempsy?

I think Dempsy is a brother of my James.

This family is a real puzzle. You would think with a family that large someone would have written down our genealogy. lol

RE: Brown Cemetery
Hey Bobby, Yes, I am great-great grandson of John W. & Catherine Byrd Welch.

Researching this family has been a bit hard, but here's what I know:

John was either orphaned or was rented out by his parents or guardian. The first possible mention of him is in the home of Augustus Nolly. I have found other references that the name may be Jolly or Holly.
Catherine is the daughter of Charles Thomas Byrd (1817-1885) & Rebecca Porter Scott (1819-?).
Catherine is not in the Arkansas Death Record Index.
J.W. Welch, 27, Three Creeks, Union Co., AR to
Miss Catherine Bird (Byrd), 22, Three Creeks, Union Co., AR, by
R.W. (R.M.) Burnett 13 May 1883. Rec. 07 June 1883, Book F, Page 218.
W.J. Roberson (Robinson), security.

I have their grandchildren if you need them. I haven't determined who John William Welch is the son of.

Hope this helps...are you a descendant also?

I already had the pictures. Myself and someone else was transcribbing the cemetery and I put the memorials on and just haven't been able to get back to putting the pictures on. If you find anymore that have what section they are in and I am the one that put the memorial on let me know and I can go through the pictures I have and add them.

Also I am not related so if you are a relative I would be happy to transfer them to you. Just let me know.
