Susan F. Alger Stevens Austiin
I am the holder of Susan's Find A Grave Memorial. I recently found on her death certificate. After searching for her as a Stevens and getting nothing to document the death date that I had in my database, I decided to search on her father's surname and the year of death and got the hit for Susan F. Austin.

The death certificate matched the date of death I had and I also learned from the certificate that she had married a Frank Austin after the death of her first husband, Ransom Belden Stevens. He had died in 1886.

On her death certificate it indicated that her father was Josiah Alger and her mother was Mary Frielove. It gave Josiah's place of birth to be New York, but for Mary it was listed as Unknown.

I see that you were contacted by a lady who indicated she was in possession of a bible that belonged to Mary Alger, wife of Josiah and it apparently had a family ancestry. Did you ever receive the bible? Did it have her children listed, and if so, what were their names. Is it showing Susan as a child? Look forward to hearing from you.

Just to be clear, you are referring to Catherine (Emmans) Van Fleet, who died in 1836?

Samuel E Cobb
In tracing down my family tree I've been having problems with a great-aunt Lillian Green- my records show she might have been the mother of Samuel Cobb -however there are three other Lillian Greens that were born around the same time in Michigan. If you can help me at all I'd really appreciate it.

Mary Ann Stanley Alger BIBLE
My friend cleans out estates and sells the items. She found a bible from 1849 with a Family Tree written in it. On the front page it was hand written Mary Ann Algers Book. I would like to get it back to the family that would be able to treasure it and be able to get more Family Tree information. I would be willing to send a picture of the page for you for proof.

Hello Sue,
It's been many years, but I still remember the family getting together at your home until the wee hours of the morning! All the aunts and uncles sitting at a table joking and laughing, even Grandma and Grandpa Lou....All of the cousins running around, the older ones looking after the younger ones while playing outside.... they were very special times. I think there must have been close to 20 of us kids. I can't even imagine all the noise we made!:p
I was internet surfing and found this site, and today of all days I found it. I believe the brothers and sisters are looking down and smiling and saying "maybe technology will keep this family in touch!" Would love to hear from you and share pictures. I don't have many, but will do my best. Love ya, Jan Alger Prystupa. My email is

Daniel Alger

I have Alger ancestors and relatives from this area who originally came from Lyme, Connecticut. I found a reference that said that he died July 8, 1848 at the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 10 days which would put his year of birth at 1773. It also said that he was married to Hannah Alger who died Nov. 17, 1858 at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 13 days. That would put her year of birth at 1782.

Alger family history
I am just getting started in researching what I believe to be our mutual family tree. I have not been back to Michigan since the death of my parents, Bob and Ollie, but I feel a strong need to connect with the history of the family. I would be very grateful for any help you could give me.
