Me Again,
The smaller stones you are referring to are of William D. Hendershot and his wife Mary. These stones are located in section "B" lot # 22. This William and his wife were born in Pennsylvania and lived in Clinton and his mother's name was Margaret.

Hello again,

I have two books from the cemetery and the dates you have are correct. He is listed as being born in Tecumseh and dying in Leslie of liver disease. These records show the middle initial in one book as "H" and no initial in the other. The grave sketch shows him buried next to Sarah. Other graves in this lot are of the McKinney family. I'll be going back to the cemetery soon and I'll check on the smaller markers and let you know what I find.

Hi Linda
I have been to the cemetery and took photos of the Hendershot stones and discovered and error. You might want to revisit Find A Grave and see the changes. Please let me know your thoughts.

RE: Grace M Stinson
I thought it must a mix up! I added the maiden name Matthews for Grace, but wasn't sure if the Mary Matthews in Oak hill was her mother, so didn't link them.

Henry Chandler

I may have found Henry's grave in Oakwood. Just to the right of her grave I found a marble foundation under the grass that once held one of the slender marble stones that would have been about the same size as Sally's. You can tell it had once held a stone, but the stone is gone and is not in vicinity.

Question - are you sure that the person who put up the memorial did an actual transcription? Is it possible they were using some other written record and never saw the gravestone? Could you find out?

Feel free to post a reply on my board or contact me at

Best wishes

Tom Cook

Chandlers in Oakwood Cemetery

I am searching for your Chandlers. There are three or four Chandler stones for children of W and E Chandler who died in the late 1830s and early 1840s. Think they are the same family? Tom
