RE: Josephine Mine Cemetery Volcanoville
Hi Melanie,

I was a co-founder of the El Dorado County Pioneer Cemeteries Commission (non-profit org) in 1996. We began studies of all the cemeteries in El Dorado County that we could document exist or once existed. The second cemetery you mention is actual the Mount Gregory Cemetery, although Mildred Davis of Georgetown did a listing calling it the Volcanoville Cemetery #1. We have photographed the cemetery and identified additional probable or possible burials that might exist in addition to the three graves that were marked, only two of which are still marked. If you would like further information, please contact me direct at my email address listed on my contributor page. There are some things I'd rather not post publicly. Thanks for the permission to use your photo. I don't think I'll need a higher resolution for now. Best regards, Sue

William Ogle, Volcanoville, El Dorado County, CA
Hello Melanie,

Thanks for posting the photo of William Ogle's gravestone. I would like permission to use your photo in a research study I'm doing on the burials in what they are now calling the Josephine Mine Cemetery but which is the original cemetery of the town of Volcanoville. I have obtained photos of the other gravestones, but I've not been able to locate my old photos of what was there when I visited in 1998. Thanks for any courtesy you may offer. Sue

Forest City Cemetery
Hi, I was wondering if you could give me directions to Forest City Cemetery in Sierra County. My great grandfather is buried there and I was wondering if it is hard to get to. I live in Verdi, Nv. very close to the Sierra County border.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Frances Veerkamp/Richard Nance
HI Melanie, Good to hear from you again. The pic of Fran is one I already have in my files, but thanks for thinking of me. The one of Richard and a little girl I did not have. Who is the child in this pic? Paula

Texas, thank you for your 5 photos of the Morristown cementery. I have visited Morristown many times as my Grandfather was born there in the 1880,s. His Grandfather died in French Corral in 1890 but I have not found his marker yet. His Grandmother was burried in North San Juan. We did crayon scetches of those 5 grave sites in 1995 and took photos as well.

Thank you, Bill

Many, many thanks for the time you spent looking for the marker, I know how hard it is to locate old markers, especially in old cemetaries. Your time is greatly appreciated.

Can you private message me so I can provide you my email address? You could then email the photos.

Thanks again!

Thanks for all your help, I now know the resting place of a few more relatives and having the photos you took added to their memorials is just great! Not sure if you took additional photos while you were at the cemetery but if you happen to have one for Alice and John "Chester" Scheemer, I would be thrilled, Alice maiden's name was Langman and she was the sister of the other Langman's you photographed. If you happen to come across her please let me know. Thanks once more, it is volunteers such as yourself that make this such a great site, Cheers!

RE: Langman family plot
Thank you so much for taking the time to locate and photograph the marker of Bessie Langman and also for sending the information on the other markers you found. This is very useful information, I will see if I can determine who they might be and add them to Find A Grave and will put in a request so you can add your photos. I am pretty sure that JHL is her husband James Henry Langman as his marker is right above hers, I was not sure he was buried there and have added a memorial for him. Thank you so much for all your help! Cheers!!

RE: Moore's Flat
Hi Melanie,

That is a very cool bit of information about the cement marker and the moss growing on it! That explains what is making the lettering so dark. I am glad to know so much more about the cemetary now and how fortunate I am to be one of the few who have a headstone to mark the grave of their family member. Thank you again for all your work and for being so thoughtful as to give me more information about the grave and grave site. :)

RE: Moore's Flat
Hello Melanie,

I just wanted to say what a wonderful surprise that it was to see the head stone of my great-great grandfather. I really had given up hope that it would ever be found. Thank you so much for your work in finding it and not only uploading pictures of it but of the cemetary too.
