RE: Vivian Porter Goff
Went back this morning and a new picture is put in place of the one that was difficult to read. We put water on the marker to make it darker. Suzanne

RE: Vivian Porter Goff
Deb, I will go back today and see if I can get a better picture using some water on the stone. We clean the tops of the stones with a broom and weed around the stone before we take the pictures. The cemetery is usually full of Canadian Geese and their droppings take a toll on the gravestones since they are flat in the ground. Also her husband's name is one the stone with her. I will post a picture on his memorial this afternoon when I get back from the cemetery. suzanne

Hi,

I didn't claim Chas. Vroom. I forgot about him on my last trip through, otherwise I would have got a photo. I did add a photo for Mary Vroom, however.

Although I am not directly linked to the Babcock's, my families pass cross with them several times as well as a number of other families in the Furnas County, NE area.

Thanks. I wasn't sure what it was, but thought it out to be checked out. When I'm tired or working to long at somethings, I do things like that.

Wow, how about you send a request for a transfer with your # if you,d like to manage this I'd be happy to transfer. It is interesting! The stones don't always tell it all! Even wonder at times which stones go with which families, I always worry about things like that. Thank you for all the work in solving this! Luella

Richard Merrill Coatney Portschy Mann
FRAZIER
Hello;

My name is Richard Mann. I saw your request for a photograph of the gravestone of, Josiah Wallace Frazier, buried in FRAZIER Cemetery, Daviess County, Missouri. I have also seen your name on several FRAZIER find-a-grave posts in Nebraska. I would very much like to know, who you are, and how you connect with these people.

I live in Kansas City, where I was born and reared. However, most of my folks are Huskers, born and bred. Recently I took a day trip with my family up to Pattonsburg Missouri and photographed several FRAZIER stones. I also located the extremely isolated FRAZIER Cemetery, in Daviess County, and shot the stones there, including Josiah Frazier's gravestone. The cemetery is small and located in between two large fields, a half to three quarters of a mile wide. I hoofed it in and the walk alone was ten minutes before I got to the gravestones themselves. Both Josiah Wallace Frazier, and his brother, David Meredith Frazier, also buried there in the FRAZIER Cemetery, were younger brothers to, Lavina Ann [FRAZIER] Lynch; one of my 4th great, paternal grandmothers.

I am:

Richard Merrill Coatney Portschy Mann; son of
Richard Lee Mann; son of
Robert Thomas Mann; son of
Helen Grinstead [ALLEN] Mann, daughter of
Thomas McClellan Allen, son of
Sarah Catherine [LYNCH] Allen, daughter of
Lavina Ann [FRAZIER] Lynch, daughter of
Samuel Frazier, and his wife, Sarah [SCHAFFER] Frazier.

Lavina Ann [FRAZIER] Lynch, and her husband, Thomas Lynch, migrated to Humboldt, Richardson, NE, from Clinton County, Indiana, sometime after the Civil War, I believe 1865-1867. They may have spent some time in Iowa, but I simply do not know. After arriving in Richardson County, Nebraska, they spent the rest of their lives there on a small farm south of town. They established a small cemetery in a distant corner of their farm and named it, Lynchburg Cemetery. About two hundred people are buried there, including, Thomas Lynch, and his wife, Lavina Ann [FRAZIER] Lynch, (My 4th great grandparents) their daughter, Sarah Catherine [LYNCH] Allen, (My 3rd great grandmother) their granddaughter inlaw, and wife of Thomas McClellan Allen, Lina Cora [GRINSTEAD] Allen, (My 2nd great grandmother), and one of their fifth great grandsons, my own son, Everett Richard Robinson Mann. I have listed every grave there I could place or find, on find-a-grave. The link is here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=100934&CScn=Lynchburg&CScntry=4&CSst=31&

Again, I see your name on a few posts for the Humboldt City Cemetery, and am very curious as to who you are, and how you connect.

I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.

Roseva M. (Cox) Hemphill
Roselva died 26 Sep 1973 in Tulare County, Ca.
Your nephew could order a copy of her death certificate, which would show where she is buried.

Also, Oscar died 15 Feb, 1967 in Tulare County, California. Your nephew could also order a copy of his death certificate, and that would tell us where he is buried or cremated or what. He is mentioned on his mother's tombstone, and he could be buried right besde her.

Oscar Leon Hemphill
James P. Hemphill is on the 1920 Census in the home of Oscar leon Hemphill and Roseva, but they have her name spelled Rosella there. It looks like James also had a sister by the name of Betty May Hemphill, who was age 2 in 1920. I never picked up on her previously.

No, Oscar had a sister named Etha Hemphill.

James Philip Hemphill was the only child of Oscar and Roseva.

I will check the Calfiornia Death Index to confirm. What proof do you have?

Oscar Leon Hemphill
I show that James Philip Hemphill was the son of Oscar Leon Hemphill and his wife, Roseva M (Cox) Hemphill. Oscar was the son of James A. Hemphill and Maria Cordelia Brown. And James was the son of William Patton Hemphill and Elmina Bright.

It looks like Oscar was the only son/child of James and Roseva.

Oscar Leon Hemphill
Oscar Leon Hemphill was the father of James Philip Hemphill. He also died in Tulare County.
He is probably in one of two cemeteries - Home of Peace Cemetery or else Visalia Public Cemetery. His parents are in the Home of Peace cemetery, Tulare County, California.

That's our next chore, to figure out which cemetery Oscar is in.

The Hemphill Historial Society
The Hemphill Historial Society was an organization started by some Hemphill people in Tennessee and Alabama, who primarily came from a line of Hemphills who went from Ireland to Pennsylvania and then to South Carolina. Then other lines of Hemphills joined in, and the group continued until a few years ago, when most of the group were getting to a time of life that they felt it was all a little to much for them.
I inherited a lot of Hemphill genealogy from three aunts and others and have been computerizing things since 1990. Find a Grave became a perfect venue for sharing some of the data, which I have collected over the years.
I still communicate with the historian for the Hemphill Historical Society and try to keep him informed of what I am doing and he helps me from time to time. For example, he may be aware of some cousins to your nephew, who comes from some North Carolina Hemphills.

Gussie
Hi, dmlofgreen

I am a former member of the Hemphill Historical Society, and I have a ton of Hemphill records. I am putting a lot of them on Find A Grave, so Hemphills, who are starting to do their research can find their relatives and ancestors quickly and then focus on the info. we don't know yet.

Are you are Hemphill descendant? Or a relative of Gussie?

RE: D.W.Miller
The directory had the info I put on, I'm assuming it came from written records somewhere, since the stone doesn't have anything else on it. It just seems strange David W. isn't there somewhere with the family, then I thought maybe the one that just said "FATHER" & had the star might be him instead of James, but there is no David listed for that section at all. I'm stumped, I never found the GAR info on any stone either, so wonder where that came from? Never got back to Humboldt yet, glad you reminded me though, try to keep notes, but I have lots of them!

RE: Delos Miler Sr
I could be mistaken too, I think it only has
D W M SR on it! No dates I saw, will exam it better and check the records! Will add the photo so you can see what you think! Most people only request one family member and ALL others with that name, sometimes there are dozens!!! Ha! I don't really mind, always try to enclude anyone I think is family.:)

Thanks for the other requests, I also added Delos,Sr. but don't have the rest the info- it just had the initials so thought it was the little boy too, until I figured out it was SR. Evidently Delos and Sarah Ann were spouses? Their markers were next to each other, I think his name should have been added under hers maybe on the big stone, and even James wife should have been added under his on the main stone. The one stone had names on the three sides, but I bet Cyril & Nadyne should have been on the last side also. That's the side their little markers were on. I can look again for cemetery info to see if they had more on Delos,Sr. if you don't have it already.

I'll be happy to transfer to a relative! I want everyone to have family if I can!:) I'd love to be able to go to cemeteries like you do along the way! There are Porter's from this area, maybe we'll find more family!
