There's a sad implication with that word ... a baby abandoned by its parents.

Hello Pattie, I was wondering how you are related to Emily? She is my G Grand Aunt. Would you be willing to transfer her memorial to me? If you are closely related I will understand. Thank you for your consideration.

No, I'm sorry but I didn't get her name. She was going to give me her email address but then we got side tracked and I forgot all about it. The largest single family unit in the cemetery was the Sadler family and she seemed to know so much about them that I'm thinking they may be related to them but I'm not sure. I'll be heading out that way again. I'll look again and see if I can find out her name.

I want back and checked the USGW Archives. They list three Daytons in the cemetery, all children. Hattie M., Howard B. and Samuel I. I do remember seeing their graves because they are typical child graves, white chalk and very worn and hard to read. It took a close look to determine that they weren't Melissa.

There was another one there that the WPA reported as being there that I couldn't find a stone for either. It's not a large cemetery, so it may be unmarked. When I'm out that way again I'll make another run through the cemetery to make sure I didn't miss something.

RE: Pollie Dayton Gossett
Your welcome sorry I wasn't able to find a headstone for Ms. Pollie. There were lots of little round cement stone that you couldn't read any thing. If one was for Ms. Pollie please be sure someone was putting flowers on all of them. It was really nice to see.

The transfer is complete and thank you so much for claiming a family member. I am so glad that you can make links, I was at a loss. Perhaps you know where she is buried?
Many well wishes,
Diana

RE: Melissa Abigail Watkins Dayton
Patti - Believe Edmund Watkins and wife Catherine left New York and lived in Illinois for many years, where most of their children grew up. After Catherine died and the children were grown, Edmund went to Iowa where he met and married my gr-gr-gr-grandmother, Phoebe. Edmund had a second family with Phoebe and they eventually settled in Nebraska.
You can see my research on Rootsweb in the family tree called "Our Missouri Family" by dldana. Most of my work was on the descendants of Edmund and Phoebe.
For Melissa Abigail Dayton's children, I also had Frank W.Dayton, born July 1867, Reuben Dayton, born 1876, and Lewis Dayton, born June 1878. No other information on these children except Frank apparently lived past 1920 and appeared on several census records.

Since there is no death date for her husband on the stone, I agree that he is not buried with her.

RE: Melrose pictures
Hello Patricia,
Yes, it certainly makes sense to have a website such as this with numerous volunteers to help others out. You may want to consider doing this in the summer for a couple months since you're in Michigan. I can almost guarantee that you'll get more out of it than those whom you take the pictures for.
Merry Christmas,
Lin
