RE: Bertha Mae Watson Johnson
Hey, I went ahead and just transfered her memorial to you. I knew Bertha, My husband worked with her at a store for along time. She was a nice lady. I cant believe it took 2 years to get her ashes back! At least she is now at rest.

Take care.

RE: Louis Alexander Carter
I don't actually have any thoughts on the 1860 census as he was born in July of 1860 making it probable that he might have missed it. I have found a Lewis Carter on the 1870 census, 9 years old, in Monroe, Lincoln, Missouri, father a Thomas J. Carter (born in Virginia though). I'll post a link here on If you're logged in it *should* work.

The age matches and it's in Missouri...I've seen Louis Alexander listed before as Lewis (apparently my family knew him as Alec). Anyway, he's my great-great grandfather and this *might* be him, although I'm very skeptical.

Louis Alexander Carter
Bob, I think you've done a lot of work on Thomas H. Watson if I'm not incorrect. I'm a descendent of his but also of Louis Alexander Carter who married Martha Mariah Watson.

Do you know anything or have any idea who Louis Alexander Carter was a son of or where he is on the 1870 census? I have him born in 1860 but I can't seem to find him in 1870. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks!

Samuel Helms

You seem to be a wealth of information on the Samual Helms family. I am a descendant of him and his son John Helms. I would love to know how to get a copy of the book that you mentioned was put together for the 100th anniversary.
Also do you have any other information on this family that you can share with me. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for all your efforts.
