Catherine Ganoe

This past weekend I was finally able to do a walking search of the Chalk Hill Lutheran Church Cemetery
(Chalk Hill, Fayette County, PA) per your request for a photo of the tomb stone for Catherine Ganoe.
After a methodical search of the cemetery, I do not believe she is buried in this particular cemetery,
unless she's in an unmarked grave. I did check the Pennsylvania Death Certificates and it shows that
Catherine Ganoe, daughter of John Ganoe and Sarah Clovis, born 1840 and died 1921 is buried in the
"Lutheran Cemetery". While not listing a particular Lutheran Cemetery, the undertaker was from
Smithfield. Her death certificate notes she died in Springhill Township, Fayette County.

An obituary in the Uniontown newspaper (which would cover the Springhill Township area) notes
that Ms. Ganoe died at the home of her sister and the remains were to be taken to the home of a
daughter, Mrs. A. Lyons, near Point Marion. Funeral services will be held from the Lutheran Church.
Internment in the Lutheran Cemetery.

It seems very unlikely they would take her body from Point Marion to Chalk Hill for burial. If you look
at the Find A Grave web site, her number is 85586087. It shows other members of her family.

I live about one mile from the Chalk Hill Lutheran Cemetery. If you are able to determine she
is buried in that cemetery, I would be willing to go back and take another look.

James "Willy" Linton query
Lynn, I think they are different persons. The one you cited did marry a lady after his wife died, but that isn't the name you gave. It was not Lois. I knew his kids and he and his first wife very well.
The second marriage was short and ended in divorce. She was local to the area, and was a friend of his first wife. Hope this helps. winnie

Re: William R. Costin
Lynn, I took the liberty of looking at your family tree and saw that James Richard & "Addie" Ruth Davis Costin were in your tree. I found William R. on the Davis plot, Sec D, Lot 218. I see from your tree that Charles K. Davis was Addie's father. His grave is also on the Davis lot and all the Davis lot marker's and William's match. I have no proof, but feel that William was and infant that was born and died on the same day, and believe that he was the son of James & Addie. Good luck with your tree and hope you can solve this to your satisfaction. I will send you more photos of the lot that I took.

Re: William R. Costin
Lynn, I walked Sec D today and did find William's marker. I also discovered that Mikey2 had claimed it again so I wrote him a note and turned the photo over to him to post. He may have found it himself in the meantime. I think we may have crossed paths at the cemetery, as he re-claimed it only this morning. I haven't heard back from him yet, but just wanted to let you know that I did look for it as promised.

Re: William R. Costin
We met with the cemetery manager, Mr. Wilson. Records for the cemetery were not kept prior to 1961 by his office. He had no record of William R. Costin in his regular interment books, but did find a listing for him in a catalog/directory that was issued by (I think) the East Texas Genealogical Society many years ago. The source for most of findagrave contributor, Gary Wills, entries. Mr. Wilson did find William's name in the Section D part of the cemetery. It is a very large section and will take walking it in its entirety to check for the grave. I will try my best to get over there asap and look for it. I'm thinking perhaps William was an infant. Many times it is listed as 'unknown birth' when the baby was born and died on the same day and very often is not buried with the parents, but in a section designated for infants. I don't think Sec D has an area devoted to infants, but I will check before I start walking. I also checked for information and could find nothing but the reference to his memorial on the findagrave site.

William R Costin Grave
Like others who have looked, I cannot find a grave for William R Costin in Rose Hill Cemetery. Also, I cannot find any census or birth or death records for a William R Costin. How certain are you of his name? If it is of interest to you, I did find the graves of James R. Costin, who died in a fall while working on a dam in the Carolinas in 1943, and his wife Ruth Davis Costin, who died in 1970. There were no other Costins around them. The only other Costin burial recorded in Rose Hill Cemetery is for an H. R. Costin, but I did not find a marker for him. I have pictures of the James and Ruth markers, if you want them. Let me know.

William R Costin
Do you have any more information on William R Costin? I can't locate this grave site and have spoken with the curator of this cemetery also to no avail. Any additional information might be helpful and I am happy to continue searching.

Yay, finally had enough snow melt that I could go out in the mud and take pictures! I only had time to do a few (Haines mostly), but will try going out again in the next few days to do more!

Greenhill Cemetery Requests
Hi Lynne. Just wanted to let you know that the cemetery is covered in about 8 inches of snow so it might be difficult to picture the graves you requested. I will monitor the snow levels at the cemetery over the next week or so and if it gets better, I will certainly fulfill all of your requests asap. Have a great day! Liz

I have added other Applegate's found in this area. Check out Indiana, Clinton and Boone County. I also contacted my friend, Marvin Applegate, in FL and said I could give you his email address.
Feel free to contact me if you need anything from this area as this is where I grew up and have known Marvin since grade school.

Judith D Applegate
I just returned from Bunnell Cemetery where I found and did take a picture of a stone for Judith D Applegate and the years were 1869-1907. Is this the one you are looking for and if so, I will post the picture.
Thank you, Betty

RE: Minnie Kyte
I rechecked the cemetery at Minnie Kyte's grave to see if I could find Rufus's but there was no marker. The main headstone just has the last name on it and Minnie has a foot marker. It could be that he is buried there but no maker was placed. You may want to call the church

Piedmont Baptist Church
1226 W Dumplin Valley Rd Dandridge, TN 37725
(865) 397-2125

to see if a marker was ordered. Sorry I could not be any further help with this :(
