Elijah Dorris - Part III
Okay, I've lost all credibility. Something is terribly wrong with my computer. I don't know what's going on with my research information, but something very strange is going on. If only I could erase all my messages! --- Lisa Pollard Zycher

Elijah Dorris - Part II
I apologize--I see how easy it is to make a mistake. I listed the identical birth and death dates for the two Elijah Dorris; however, they are two different men. The older Elijah, son of Wm. & Eleanor, was born 27 Feb 1786 in Orange, Caswell, North Carolina, died 12 Jan 1875 in Saline, Illinois. My great grandfather Elijah, who married Mary Cook, was b. Feb 29, 1840 in Monroe, IL and d. Jan 21, 1875 Saline Co., IL. --- an embarrassed Lisa Pollard Zycher

Please see Diane Shafer's earlier comment (we're cousins). I believe the information for Elijah Dorris's Find A Grave has been combined with that of another Elijah Dorris. The son of Lewis Dorris and Mary "Polly" Bush is my great grandfather Elijah (b. Feb 29, 1840 in Monroe, IL; d. Jan 21, 1875 in Saline Co., IL married Mary Jane Cook, his only marriage. The other Elijah (b.Feb 29, 1840 Monroe, IL; d.Jan 21, 1875 Saline Co.,IL) is my 2nd great grand uncle and is the son of William Dorris and Eleanor Brown. Nonetheless, I so appreciate your putting information on Find A Grave and want to thank you for your efforts. Kindest regards, Lisa Pollard Zycher

96520353 memorial created by you. The name on the stone is Selah B. Unless you know something different I would like to get the name listed correct because there has been several problems with her memorial and different spellings and duplicate memorials. Please let me know the reasoning if you keep it as is. Thanks! Karen

Elijah Dorris 1840-1875
Dear Linda, Before my question I want to thank you for all of your hard work that help your distant cousins research this ever elusive Dorris family.

I descend through Lewis Dorris, then his son Elijah Dorris, and then his daughter Ida Dorris Snyder who was my great grandmother. When reviewing the property owned by Elijah Dorris and his wife Mary Jane Cook, I noticed that it was in Independence Township, and he was also there on the 1870 census. I also have probate records that lists my Elijah Dorris dying in January 1875.

My question is: Could the grave in Butler Cemetery be that of my Elijah rather than of his uncle? I find no record of the senior Elijah on the 1870 census and he would have been in his late 80's. Have you seen this grave; if not, how did you obtain this record.

It would be an easy assumption to make. They both lived in that area and were both married to women named Mary. Possibly they both did die in January of 1875, but it seems like something to pursue. I have made two research trips to Harrisburg and I'm thinking about making another with this new lead. Thanks again so much for your hard work. Diane Thompson Shafer

Dear Linda LeBarre,
I totally agree with your statement you stated regarding the respect for others who are grieving.
Unfortunately, I am one who has recently lost loved ones and wish not to immediately post due to the factor grieving process is still tender. Thank you for expressing to all.
I have a question. I have researched in the Harrisburg, Saline County, Il area for the last 12 years and added bunch of surnames to my tree. My surnames are Dorris and Gaskins. I noticed in my family cemetery, Butler cemetery in Saline County, some one has entered Andrew Jackson Dorris' fathers' name to Findagrave in that cemetery. How can I find out if he is really buried there or was it someone just thought to put his name in there. I could have done that easily 12 years ago. I found my Great Uncle Lewis Dorris in Rann Cemetery but not my Great Gr Grandfather Elijah Dorris. Please let me know, I really would like a picture of Andrew Jackson, Harriet and Henry who is in Butler Cemetery but no one goes out there as I have been told. I would but I live in California.
Ha-long drive. Thank you in advance for your time and efforts. God Bless you, Sincerely, Toby

Paul Solomon
Hi Linda,

I just got off the phone with the youngest daughter of Paul Solomon. We had a lovely conversation. Apparently, she attends the church where her father's ashes are laid.

I had called the church Saturday, when I couldn't locate a gravesite. This morning, the secretary of the church returned my call to inquire about the reason for my call. She then explained that the daughter was very interested in speaking with me, so I agreed to receive her call.

I gave the daughter your email, so I'm sure she'd love to compare notes. She's not familiar with genealogy, and is quite curious about your findings.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll be receiving additional details about this side of the family, as she was quick to share that info with me.

Good luck in meeting a "new" family member!

Shirley

Hi Linda,

I maintain so many records and make so many changes for other people that I have no short term memory for what I have done. For your additional family link requests, please use the edit tab, which will provide me a direct link to the memorials you want me to work on.
If you want to maintain those records yourself, send me a request, again using the edit tab, and I will be happy to transfer them to you.

All the best!

Rick

I only find the one memorial that I created. You will have to give me the spelling of the other name. Does it have a picture attached?

LeMarr's
Hi Linda, I was contacted yesterday from a nice lady who has photos of LeMarr's in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra, Illinois. She has the original of Sarah and an earlier version tintype of her. She also had some Crum-Wills cemetery records that she sent to me. We went to Crum-Wills last summer, not easy to get to!! I will have to look there again and compare notes. If you are interested email me and I will email you her address.clc1256@yahoo.com. That's me. Take care,Connie

RE: Solomons and James
Hi Linda, We were out yesterday in the area and decided to try any find it. We stopped the truck where find a grave said it was and got out and looked, didn't see anything. it said no trespassing. Then a man came (thought we were in trouble) but he couldn't have been nicer, he invited us up to his yard and told us to park in his yard. He knew exactly where it was and has been clearing it out. The 2 spires are down, but he helped us lift them up to read them. He told us that once he gets it cleared out he is going to reset them and put a fence around them. He knew some of the history. After about 20 mins he told my husband he looked familiar and Wayne told him we are from Auburn (25 miles away) and he said he went to school in Auburn!! I asked what year did you graduate and turns out he graduated with our oldest son in 94!!! Crazy!! So, our son is facebook friends with him so I can get updates on the progress. His name is Ben Jackson and he lives in rural Hettick, where the cemetery is located. He was awesome. Great day!!! Take care, Connie and Wayne :)
